Steps to reproduce

1. That message is displayed when run SplitWave after fixing the DAC to 44.1kHz in the Mac's Audio MIDI settings. It works normally when I press the activate button after changing the audio MIDI settings to 48kHz, and it also works well even if I change it to 44.1kHz while it is operating. However, due to the change in the internal sampling rate, an intersampleover phenomenon occurs where a 0dBTP audio source exceeds 0dBTP.

Expected behavior

It would be better to use Splitwave's fixed sampling rate function or display it as an output device in the audio MIDI settings. Currently, I have set the MacBook speakers as the default output device and muted them to prevent conflicts with other output devices.

Hello! I tried to reproduce the issue, but perhaps I misunderstood the description, or it depends on the version of macOS.
I tested the following sequence:

1. I created an App Audio → Speaker pipeline, with the speakers set to 44.1 kHz.
2. Changed the speaker sample rate to 48 kHz in Audio MIDI Setup.

I was able to reproduce the related issue: Splitwave continued to use the previous sample rate after it had been changed in the system, which led to audio glitches. However, I was unable to reproduce the toast notification shown in the screenshot.

Could you please provide a clearer step-by-step guide?

Regarding your suggestion, if I’ve understood correctly, you’d like a sample rate selection option to be added for virtual devices?
That’s a good idea, and one of the contributors had already been working on it, but the PR was closed. I’ll continue working on this and it will be released in the next update along with a fix for this bug.

At first, it appeared that the problem was caused by the Dirac Live Processor. It is a fairly complex program, so there is a possibility of bugs.
However, the same situation occurs even if the Dirac Live Processor and Hilo DAC are removed.

Initially, the same problem occurred even when I connected the music app to the MacBook Pro's built-in speakers and pressed the Activate button. Thinking that the issue might be caused by Apple Music's high-quality lossless audio playback, I tried switching the input to system audio, but the same problem persists. Perhaps similar programs like Blackhole or Loopback, or AU-LAB or ARK Kit, are having an effect. I will remove them one by one and provide feedback. It would be great if a feature to lock the sampling rate were released. Unlike iOS, Macs allow you to lock the sampling rate for the entire system, so it would be helpful for professional users as well. Thank you.

there might be some useful information there about what exactly is causing the problem

1. Splitwave checks the output → detects 44.1 kHz.
2. A process tap is created for App/System Audio.
3. macOS creates and configures an aggregate device.
4. The tap is launched → it actually runs at 48 kHz.

As far as I understand the problem, between the initial check in point 1 and the actual launch in point 4, the frequency changes, or CoreAudio itself adjusts the aggregate device to a different frequency. Because of this, Splitwave expects 44.1 kHz but receives 48 kHz, resulting in this error.

It’s quite possible that some external programme is affecting this, although it’s impossible to say for certain at this stage.

I don’t think you need to delete the programmes one by one, as you suggested earlier. I’ve already started working on making Splitwave handle these sample-rate changes correctly, and once that’s done, this particular problem should no longer occur.

Thank you for the prompt response.
I installed it yesterday and have been using it since.
For starters, the crashes caused by the sampling rate mismatch that occurred previously are gone.
However, for some reason, even though I set the pipeline sampling rate to 44.1 kHz in the settings, the sampling rate for system audio and Apple Music remains at 48 kHz, and a sampling rate conversion indicator is displayed.
I changed all the settings to 44.1 kHz in macOS's Audio MIDI Setup as well, but it doesn't seem to have changed.
For now, I am investigating the possibility that this was caused by a conflict with another audio device.

Thanks for the feedback! I investigated this further, and it turns out this is only a visual issue.

On macOS, App Audio and System Audio already use the actual sample rate of the device currently configured as the system output. So if the system output is running at 44.1 kHz and the Splitwave pipeline is also set to 44.1 kHz, the captured audio is already processed at 44.1 kHz and no resampling occurs.

The 48 kHz value and the resampling indicator shown on the App Audio and System Audio nodes were incorrectly hardcoded in the UI. That's my mistake - the interface was reporting a 48 → 44.1 kHz conversion even though that wasn't necessarily happening in the audio engine.

I've already fixed the UI so it now reports the actual capture sample rate and only shows the resampling indicator when resampling is really taking place. I'll include the fix in an update within the next few days.
