Product Overview
ExSite9 has been built to facilitate researchers easily and quickly tagging their data files with descriptive metadata and subsequently packaging their data files and associated metadata ready for submission to a repository.
It is designed to run on the researcher's laptop and supports Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
The problem statement for this project has been defined as:
- collecting data in the field without adequate provision of metadata to describe the data
- researchers who collect data & others that rely on their data
- data / metadata is not submitted into repositories & therefore is not accessible, not organised, incomplete, of low quality, has low reusability and poor data provenance.
- meet ANDS criteria
- ensure metadata is captured efficiently, accurately & completely, and submitted to a repository.
ExSite9 is discipline & file agnostic, and imposes no workflow other than assuming the researchers will upload their data files such that they are available to the machine ExSite9 is running on.
As such it should be able to be re-used by anyone who has data files that they want to tag with descriptive metadata.
ExSite9 is designed to be used by the researcher on their own laptop. As such there is no requirement for user provisioning.
