We are the MReye research group at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), a multidisciplinary team embedded within the C.J. Gorter MRI Center and the LUMC departments of Ophthalmology, Radiology, and Radiation Oncology.
We develop and evaluate new imaging, modelling, and computational techniques to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of ocular conditions. A major focus of our work is ocular MRI and uveal melanoma, alongside ocular proton therapy and patient-specific visual optics. Our goal is to translate technological innovation into better care for patients with eye disease.
Our research brings together medical imaging, physics, optics, radiotherapy, and ophthalmology. Research topics include:
We believe that research software and methods should be reusable, transparent, and reproducible. We therefore make our software, analysis methods, and — where privacy permits — research data openly available.
⭐ Featured projects:
- Visisipy: a Python library for building eye models and performing clinically relevant optical simulations.
- pyROT: a toolbox complementing RaySearch RayOcular for patient-specific ocular radiotherapy modelling.
- PAROS: a method for determining and correcting the optical scaling of fundus photographs.
