ofxOceanodeOnlineRadio

OpenFrameworks Oceanode addon for streaming internet radio with multi-channel output routing.

Installation

  1. Clone this repository to your OpenFrameworks addons folder:
cd openFrameworks/addons
git clone https://github.com/yourusername/ofxOceanodeOnlineRadio
  1. Run the dependency installation script:
cd ofxOceanodeOnlineRadio/scripts
chmod +x install_dependencies.sh
./install_dependencies.sh
  1. In your project's config.make, add:
XCODE_LDFLAGS = "-L/Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/lib -lvlc -lvlccore"
  1. In Xcode project settings:
    • Add to "Header Search Paths": /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/include
    • Add to "Library Search Paths": /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/lib

Usage

  1. Include the addon in your project:
#include "ofxOceanodeOnlineRadio.h"
  1. Register the radio node with Oceanode:
ofxOceanode oceanode;
ofxOceanodeOnlineRadio::registerNodes(oceanode);
  1. Create stations.json in your data/radio folder:
{
  "station.name": "http://stream.url",
  "another.station": "http://another.url"
}

Dependencies

Radio Stations Setup

The addon comes with a default set of radio stations.

  1. Create a data/radio folder in your project
  2. Copy the default stations.json file

To customize your stations:

  1. Edit data/radio/stations.json in your project
  2. Use this format:
{
    "station.name": "http://stream.url",
    "another.station": "http://another.url"
}

Station Categories

Stations can be organized by categories using dot notation:

  • classical.mozart
  • jazz.swiss
  • ambient.sleep

This helps organize stations in the node's selection dropdown.

Testing Stations

Before adding a station, verify the stream URL works in VLC:

  1. Open VLC
  2. Media -> Open Network Stream
  3. Paste the URL and test playback
