gravitas v0.2.1

Gravitas is a Solar Expanse overhaul mod designed to make the game (much) harder and shift focus towards the early game. Its current Timeline is 2020-2120.

Key Changes

  • LV Rebalance. Space is hard, getting stuff off planets is hard. Expect Launches to need a lot more fuel and carry less payload.
  • Facility upgrade. Buffed Alloy and Glass production and added a Regolith smelter that (slowly) turns silicone into metal.
  • Lutetia, Ceres and Psyche got a glow down. They are still great, just less so. (Oh and noble gasses are generally harder to get now)
  • The Economy got a rework. (Explained in the guide)
  • Contracts have been entirely removed.
  • Research Costs got Rebalanced. (And parts of the tech tree are now locked).

Guide

Install & Setup

  1. Install Melon loader from https://github.com/lavagang/melonloader
  2. Download the mod folder from this repo
  3. Place the content of the gravitas folder in the mod folder in your Solar Expanse folder (melon loader should have made one for you). It is important that your mod folder contains a bunch of dlls afterwards and not for example a fodler labled gravitas with dlls inside.
  4. Launch Solar Expanse (Melon loader should open a weird terminal with logging data, no weird terminal, no mods)
  5. Start a new game with an agency of your choiche, it is recomended to not play with competitors (they wont trade with you either way)
  6. Start a new game with an agency of your choiche
  7. Wait a ~15 sec after the game has loaded
  8. Save and reload the game (no game restart required).

How to play

You are now in the game and all the mods are installed, you probably have some questions commander.
You are the new head of earths unified space programm, your selection in the menu ? That just defined your Heritage.
Earths governments have tasked you peppering humanity across our solar system the current time line for establishing outposts is as follows:
2030: Luna & Earth*
2040: Mars
2060: Ceres, Lutetia Psyche
2080: Jupiter*
2100: Saturn*
2120: PLuto
Your funding for this will be rather task based. A budget of ~220 Million in addition to your starting budget of 10 Million has been allocated for this project to be payed out in tranches for the delivery of materials at the target bodies. (The first 20 Million will be paid for delivering 1t of fuel to Earth orbit) Building commerccial labs for an additional income of 200 per day is also recommended though they do require a rather large amount of resources. For the goals with a * those deliveries are expected in their orbits. You can perform deliveries via the Market window and check what Resources are expected where. Outside of Earth those markets should never update, fixed prices fixed amounts, once its all sold thats it. There is a provision for a bonus of 500k for exploring each solar object. It is paid when the rover is scrapped and the parts are handed to earths governemnt on that body via the market. Thats all really, id encourage you to talk to youre chief scientist now looking at the avialability of technologies and then start planning our space future.

Known exploits:

  • Launching a spaceship as payload and adding any amount of fuel to it breaks the launch cost calculation letting you "cheat" fuel into orbit.
    Recommended player behaviour: always launch your stratos upper stages empty.
  • Base game startos as launcher lets you launch for no fuel cost.
    Recommended player behaviour: Dont use startos as an LV it will only bring pain. But if you have to make sure to actually pay for the orbital insertions.
  • Deconstructing can yield more materials than the object weight allowing you to move "compressed" mass.
    Recommended player behaviour: Dont intentionally abuse this. Deconstructing Stratos for resources is intended and encouraged, but dont use Con equipment as a magical 5x weight reducer for alloy for examle.
  • Commercial labs always produce full money wheter they are running at 100% or not.
    Recommended player behaviour: Set them on max priotity and turn them off when you need the resources for something else.
