I'm Mlanawo "Nawo" Mbechezi, a software engineer and architect. I work across the stack, from infrastructure tooling in Rust to web platforms in PHP and React, and I care about shipping things that hold up in production.
You can find me on my website or on Bluesky.
Tired of the Kubernetes tax for projects that don't need a cluster, I'm building Kemeter — a PaaS assembled brick by brick, from virtualization and provisioning to orchestration, reverse-proxy, logs, and monitoring. Each brick is its own open-source tool:
-
Ring (Rust) — a lightweight workload orchestrator with declarative deployments. A single binary, no control plane: a REST API, a scheduler, and a state engine that reconciles desired vs. current state. An alternative to Kubernetes and Swarm that ships only the essentials. Docker and Cloud Hypervisor runtimes.
-
Sōzune (Rust) — a modern reverse proxy built on Sōzu. Discovers services across Docker, Podman, Swarm, Kubernetes, Nomad, or a YAML file, manages Let's Encrypt certificates automatically (HTTP-01 & DNS-01, wildcards), and hot-reloads changes with zero downtime.
- Aplos (JS) — a React framework built on Rspack (Rust bundler) instead of webpack. File-based routing, nested layouts, and the React Compiler out of the box, with fast builds and instant HMR.
- Lugha — a next-gen language learning SaaS: conversational AI, SRS, pronunciation, and daily goals.
I run alpacode: product engineering focused on high-end PHP/Symfony, Rust, and React/TypeScript stacks. I help companies turn product vision into robust systems, ship sustainable architectures, and build engineering teams that don't burn out, with hands-on expertise on infrastructure, workflows, and how technical teams are structured.
- Contribute 🔥 — the Kemeter ecosystem spans Rust, PHP, and TypeScript. Jump into the systems-engineering trenches: open an issue or send a PR.
- Hire us — bring alpacode onto your next mission-critical PHP, Rust, or AI-infrastructure project.
- Say hello — nawo@alpacode.io
