Why the change

Reduce the native Zerops runner VPN MTU so deployment can read the complete Application Composition authority row without a transport timeout.

Special things to note

  • This changes only the runner VPN, using Zerops' documented MTU 1350.
  • The unchanged native PostgreSQL probe times out on the full 14.5 KB row at the default MTU and passes at MTU 1350; it also passes inside Zerops.
  • Validation: 38 workflow tests, native hooks, workflow lint, and the exact runner query probe; application code and retained releases are unchanged.

Change outline

Zerops runner connects to the private database
- zcli vpn up --project-id "$VPN_PROJECT_ID"
+ zcli vpn up --project-id "$VPN_PROJECT_ID" --mtu 1350
→ read the complete authority row
   → publish the approved composition
→ activate the retained Shell ingress

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 5be19

The VPN change leaves a CI test failing. Update its expected command before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 5be19

The change adjusts packet sizing without changing the VPN project, credentials, or cleanup controls. No security regression was identified in the inspected paths, but the command-level test still expects the old invocation and deployment behavior at the new MTU has not been independently verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The changed configuration applies to runners using this action and their existing selected-project VPN connections. No authority expansion was found in the inspected command or callers; this does not establish coverage of external consumers or every deployment environment.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — The change can restore transport reachability for existing database and deployment operations, but it does not itself supply new authority or remove the inspected connection-verification and workflow-ordering controls.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Cleanup outputs are prepared before connection. Inspected callers retain always-run cleanup, while the action checks state ownership, attempts native clear and conditional down, checks interface removal, deletes owned local state, and reports failures. These controls predate the MTU change; they do not prove recovery after abrupt runner termination or concurrent native sessions.
