I've decreased the window size to nearly the same size it was before. I'm still debating about the spacing, I liked the "cozy" feel of the old layout but I don't mind the extra padding between the controls the way it is now.

I had increased the window size to accommodate the more relaxed spacing. Decreasing the window size currently results in clipped UI controls (see attached screenshots).

Whether to use tighter or looser spacing, I don't have a preference either way other than if Haiku has some sort of "standard", we should follow that. I tried looking at other Preference panels that ship with Haiku OS and I couldn't find a consistent spacing. For instance, Locale uses more relaxed spacing while Deskbar preferences uses tighter (see screenshot below).

One advantage with tighter spacing is better screen-estate utilization and allows adding more controls (although I'd like to avoid presenting the user with an overwhelming amount of settings). The advantage with relaxed spacing is perhaps it's easier for the user to read.

At the moment I don't have a strong preference for either. It's easy to do tight spacing when using the same set of controls, but when we mix controls (like buttons, menufield and checkboxes), having more relaxed spacing seems slightly better.

For now, let's just go with tighter controls (like Deskbar preferences) if you're okay with that as well - BUT my concern is if we combine different controls (with different heights for example) it might look really odd and inconsistent with tight spacing than with more relaxed spacing.

I guess we should just experiment and figure this out after taking all the panels into consideration.

Actually, since we switched everything to relaxed spacing perhaps let's just stick with that?

It doesn't look that bad and even if we extend the window height, it doesn't seem extremely tall.

Unrelated to Beezer --- It's a bit sad that no browser I tried on Haiku (Dooble, WebPositive) works when trying to attach files in GitHub issue comments. 😞 I had to take screenshots using VirtualBox and upload them from my host Windows system. Let's hope this changes in the future.

I usually use Otter browser as an alternative to WebPositive. The development branch of WebPositive supposedly runs much better but it's incompatible with Haiku Beta 2 so they can't ship a new package of it. Once Haiku Beta 3 is released it will include the improved WebPositive.

I'll increase the window size back to where it was then.

Thanks, I will give Otter a try.

I think once PrefsWindow has been completely converted to layout kit we should be able to allow resizing and save that as part of the state. I must have my font size turned down a couple points because my preference views have more space than in your screenshots. I don't think it's an excessive amount of space though.
