Smriti — A Gentle Shloka Reminder While You Work

A simple Windows app that quietly shows shlokas on your screen while you work.

📥 Download & Setup (Windows)

1. Download

  • Download the .zip file

2. Extract the file

  • Go to your Downloads
  • Right-click the .zip file
  • Click "Extract All..."
  • Click Extract

3. Open the folder

You will see:

  • Smriti.exe → main app (shows shlokas)
  • ShlokaManager.exe → edit/add your own shlokas
  • shlokas.csv → data file

⚠️ Keep all these files in the same folder.

4. Run Smriti

  • Double-click Smriti.exe

If Windows shows a warning:

  • Click "More info"
  • Click "Run anyway"

5. Done 🎉

  • A settings window will open
  • After that, shlokas will start appearing on your screen

✨ What Smriti does

  • Shows one shloka at a time in a small floating window
  • Stays on top while you work
  • Can be moved anywhere on the screen
  • Shows meaning on clicking ?
  • Lets you increase/decrease font size
  • Close using button or Right Alt + Left Alt

⚙️ Settings (on startup)

  • Timeout → how long a shloka stays visible
  • Sleep → delay before next shloka appears
  • Width & Height → popup size

Closing this window exits the app. Minimizing it keeps Smriti running.

🛠 ShlokaManager (Edit / Add Shlokas)

Use ShlokaManager.exe if you want to manage your own collection.

What you can do:

  • Open the existing shlokas.csv
  • Add new shlokas
  • Edit existing ones
  • Delete entries
  • Search by reference, text, or meaning
  • Save your changes

How to use:

  1. Open ShlokaManager.exe
  2. Click File → Open
  3. Select shlokas.csv
  4. Make your changes
  5. Click Save

Now when you run Smriti, it will use your updated shlokas.

📝 Important note

  • Reference numbers should use dots instead of spaces Example: bg.2.47 (not bg 2 47)

If entered incorrectly, the app will notify you.

📁 Important

  • shlokas.csv must stay in the same folder as Smriti.exe
  • Do not rename or delete it

🙏 Why this exists

While working on a computer, it’s easy to stay disconnected from anything spiritual.

Smriti was built as a small, quiet reminder—so that even during work, a shloka can appear and bring a moment of pause.

If this helps you even a little, that’s enough.

📚 Data

The included shlokas.csv contains ~80 shlokas collected from vedabase.io.

❓ Help

If something doesn’t work:

  • Make sure all files are in the same folder
  • Try running the app again
