PAGE.OS is a gateway to open-source, public-domain, and openly accessible culture. It blends a terminal-inspired reader with a calm library lounge, then connects readers to public-domain books, open archive texts, and public-domain artwork.
The goal is simple: make exploration of free knowledge feel intentional, beautiful, and alive.
- Searches Project Gutenberg and Gutenberg-compatible indexes for public-domain books.
- Surfaces direct TXT/PDF files from open archive collections through Internet Archive metadata.
- Provides an infinite public-domain artwork wander space powered by open cultural collections.
- Opens TXT books directly in the PAGE.OS reader and launches PDFs in a dedicated browser tab.
- Tracks saved books, bookmarks, reading progress, and optional reading statistics.
- Offers two interface modes: a classic terminal grid and a softer library lounge.
PAGE.OS is intentionally oriented around sources that preserve and share knowledge:
- Project Gutenberg for public-domain literature.
- Internet Archive for open archive texts and scanned works.
- Wikimedia Commons, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Cleveland Museum of Art open-access collections for artwork.
- Open-source libraries and tools that keep the experience inspectable and remixable.
PAGE.OS is not a general-purpose search scraper. Discovery is routed through open/public-domain focused sources wherever possible.
- Home: public-domain book discovery, recommendations, and open archive search.
- Infinite Gallery: an explorable field of public-domain and CC0 artwork.
- Library: saved books, bookmarks, history, and reading progress.
- Reader: distraction-free long-form reading with lounge and classic presentations.
- Settings: interface, reader preferences, and open source-node monitoring.
- Legal: usage terms, privacy notes, and content policy.
- Next.js 14 and React.
- TypeScript.
- Tailwind CSS.
- Radix UI.
- Framer Motion.
- Firebase for optional sync.
- PDF.js for readable document extraction.
