I do flood hazards analytics with open-source geospatial data and tools, and I have built water infrastructure for over 3 years. Including, construction of 470 m of flood-protection wall, more than 24,000 groundwater-recharge trenches and 1,200 m of canal for irrigation water supply, across different project sites in Afghanistan.
Since 2022 I do the same work with satellite data. I have learned these skills through my M.Sc. degree in Integrated Water Resources Management, TH Köln, funded by a DAAD EPOS scholarship.
| Project | The number | Stack |
|---|---|---|
| FNP-Bauflächen im Hochwasserrisikobereich Köln | 2,281.5 ha of Cologne's planned building area sit inside the HQextrem flood zone and outside HQ100, about 15% of the city total | Python · QGIS |
| Sentinel-1 Soil Moisture Estimation | 16% higher soil moisture under no-tillage than under conventional tillage. Model r = 0.75, RMSE 0.095 m³/m³ | GEE · R · QGIS |
The soil-moisture workflow is archived on Zenodo, you can check it here.
Field. MgtWell Consulting Services, Kabul, 2017 to 2020: flood-protection wall, groundwater-recharge trenches, canal lining, site supervision and quality control across eight sites. Certified in Quality Control and Site Supervision by the Afghan Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development.
Emergency water. Welthungerhilfe, Kabul, 2020: rehabilitated water access points serving 950 households and 15 schools during the COVID-19 response, with QGIS used to prioritise which points to reach first.
Research. ICARDA, Morocco, 2025: built the Sentinel-1 pipeline above for my M.Sc. thesis and documented the methodological framework internally at ICARDA and TH Köln. TH Köln, 2024 to 2025: documented a reproducible SAR workflow and validated it over a region in Spain at 75% accuracy.
