Awake, even when the lid is closed.

License: MIT

🌐 English | 한국어

ClosedAwake is a Windows tray app that keeps your laptop awake, including after you close the lid. Plenty of tools prevent idle sleep, but almost none handle the lid-close scenario. ClosedAwake temporarily overrides the lid-close action so your work keeps running with the lid shut, then restores your original power setting when you are done.

Close the lid, walk away, and let the download, render, build, or remote session finish on its own. When the timer expires or you turn protection off, ClosedAwake restores your original lid action. If the lid is still closed with no external monitor, it can even put the machine to sleep for you.

Highlights

  • Lid-close override. Closing the lid does nothing while protection is active. Your original lid action (sleep, hibernate, shut down) is backed up and restored the moment protection ends.
  • Four awake modes. Keep using the selected power plan, keep awake indefinitely, keep awake for a time interval, or keep awake until expiration.
  • Smart sleep on expiry. When the timer expires and the lid is closed with no external monitor connected, ClosedAwake restores settings and enters sleep automatically.
  • Granular prevention. Toggle Prevent away mode sleep (for S3-capable systems) and Prevent display sleep (screen stays on, screensaver blocked, session unlocked) independently.
  • Tray-native. Lives in the system tray. Click the icon to open the popup, switch modes, set timers, and apply changes without opening a full window.
  • System startup. Optional auto-start at login so protection is always one click away.
  • Localized. English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

Why ClosedAwake?

Every keep-awake tool can stop idle sleep. Almost none solve the actual problem laptop users face: you want to close the lid and walk away, but closing the lid puts the machine to sleep and kills your work. The usual workaround is digging through Control Panel to change the lid action globally, and then forgetting to change it back.

ClosedAwake makes this a one-click operation. Turn it on, close the lid, and your work continues. Turn it off, and your original lid setting is automatically restored. Combine it with a timer, and the laptop can even put itself to sleep after the work is done and the lid is still closed.

Awake modes

Combo box item Description
Keep using the selected power plan No prevention. Honors the current Windows power plan as-is.
Keep awake indefinitely Keeps the system awake for as long as protection is active.
Keep awake for a time interval Keeps the system awake for a set number of hours and minutes, then restores.
Keep awake until expiration Keeps the system awake until a specific date and time, then restores.

Prevention options

  • Override lid close action. Closing the lid does nothing. Your original AC/DC lid action is backed up and restored when turned off.
  • Prevent away mode sleep. When you manually choose to sleep, the computer appears asleep but keeps running in the background. Shown only on S3-capable systems.
  • Prevent display sleep. The screen stays on, the screensaver will not start, and the session will not auto-lock.
  • Sleep on timer expiration when lid is closed. When the timer expires, if the laptop lid is closed, the system enters sleep after restoring settings. Skipped if an external monitor is connected.

Safety and responsibility

ClosedAwake is a power-management helper. Closing the lid while the laptop is running traps heat inside the chassis. Do not put a running, lid-closed laptop in a bag, sleeve, drawer, or other enclosed space unless you have personally confirmed that the device is cool and safe.

The lid-close override, timer, and auto-sleep features are best-effort conveniences, not guarantees. Operating system behavior, power policy changes, firmware updates, and unexpected shutdowns can all cause the original lid setting to not be restored. ClosedAwake backs up your lid action to disk and attempts recovery on the next launch, but you should verify your power settings after extended use.

You are responsible for monitoring device state and heat risk. Device damage, data loss, property damage, or other loss caused by ignoring those risks is your responsibility.
