🌿 Hi, I'm Ana Spinola 👋

Environmental Data Analyst | Research Scientist (Environmental Sciences) | Monitoring & Observability Specialist

I’m an environmental scientist (PhD) and data analyst with 6+ years of experience working at the intersection of research, data, observability, and environmental problem-solving. I specialize in analyzing complex datasets — from environmental indicators to REST API logs — using reliable, reproducible, and modern analytical tools.

My professional path bridges two worlds: 🔬 Academic research (water quality, microbiological & biochemical analyses, public policy, sustainability, northern environments) 💻 Data & Software (R, monitoring tools like Splunk, Dynatrace, DataDog, Grafana; automation; technical documentation)

I am now transitioning back toward research, environmental monitoring, green infrastructure, and data-driven decision-making roles in Québec.

🧪 Research & Analytical Expertise

Environmental Research: microbiological & biochemical water analysis, sampling protocols, environmental monitoring, fieldwork support

Data Science (Environmental & Tech):

R (analysis, visualization, dashboards)

Statistical modelling & reproducible workflows

Analysis of large log datasets and system behaviour (Splunk, Dynatrace, DataDog, Grafana)

Policy & Reporting: public policy analysis, technical reporting, scientific writing

Teaching & Knowledge Transfer: university-level courses in environmental management and environmental engineering

Collaboration: interdisciplinary teamwork with universities, NGOs, and community organizations

📊 Technical Tools

Languages: R, Python (basis), JavaScript

Monitoring & Observability: Dynatrace, Splunk, Grafana, DataDog

Field & Lab: water quality protocols, microbiological assays, environmental sampling

Visualization: ggplot2, R Markdown, dashboards

Cloud/Automation background: GitLab CI/CD, containers, REST APIs (understanding & analysis)

🌍 Recent Focus Areas

Environmental monitoring in northern and sub-arctic regions

Green infrastructure & stormwater management

Ecosystem health indicators

Data pipelines for research and community-driven environmental projects

Combining software observability methods with environmental datasets

🤝 Community & NGO Engagement

Strong commitment to social and environmental impact

Field experience with TECHO Latam, supporting communities living in extreme poverty across Latin America

Passion for accessible science & community-based environmental solutions

🐇 Featured Project (Human + Nature + Tech)

Bunny Vets Contacts App A small personal project combining UX, React, and joyful pet care.

Because I love bunnies, and they deserve good vets.

🌱 Currently Developing

Advanced R for environmental monitoring

Python and SQL for data analysis
