[Python][Packaging] Manylinux image does not support Python 3.13 free-threaded anymore as it was experimental #50086

Closed

Description

@raulcd

Describe the bug, including details regarding any error messages, version, and platform.

PyPA dropped cp313t from the Manylinux images reasoning it was experimental and people should use 3.14 (or 3.15 once released):

In order to prepare for Python 3.15 I tried to update the underlying images for manylinux and musllinux from quay.io (PyPA maintained).
Either we require two different underlying images to build 3.13 free-threaded or we just drop 3.13 free-threaded.

    @AlenkaF @jorisvandenbossche @pitrou should we just drop Python 3.13 free threaded from our wheels matrix as it was experimental? Should we do it only for manylinux where the underlying image does not exist anymore? Do we want to custom support it (installing 3.13t manually)?

    This was spawned from here in order to analyze possible issues in preparation for 3.15 in advance.

    That sounds ok to me, given that producing those wheels would require specific setup and tooling.

    Sounds OK to me too.

    Yes, +1. cibuildwheel also deprecated opting in to building those wheels (and their upcoming 4.0 will drop the option entirely)
