💡 What: The optimization implemented

  • Changed for _, prof := range profiles to for i := range profiles.
  • Accessed elements directly via profiles[i] instead of the iteration variable.

🎯 Why: The performance problem it solves

  • In Go, for _, val := range slice copies each element of the slice into val. For slices of large structs, this can lead to significant unnecessary CPU and memory overhead.

📊 Measured Improvement:

  • Due to network restrictions in the environment preventing the download of dependencies, I was unable to run automated benchmarks. However, this is a well-known Go performance pattern that eliminates O(N) struct copies per call. Given that eero.Profile contains multiple fields and a slice of devices, avoiding this copy is a clear efficiency win.

Changed the range loop in `writeProfileMappings` to use index-based access
instead of value copying. This avoids the overhead of copying the
`eero.Profile` struct in each iteration, improving efficiency.
