### [Allen CCFv2 Developmental Mouse Brain Atlas](https://doi.org/10.1038/nature05453)
This is a developmental mouse brain atlas using version 2 of the commonly used Allen Common Coordinate Framework.
The template is based on population average coronal slices with Nissl staining, and annotates the fiber tracts

I don't know if it is a population average nissl i think its just one animal?

also the latter half of this sentence seems to maybe relate to the fiber atlas

Yes you're right, it seems like the sections were drawn straight from the ARA specimen. Am I right in saying that both CCFv1 and CCFv2 are based on the same coronal 25um slices taken from the same specimen, whereas CCFv3 was based on a population average of 1675 mice? I think I'd gotten confused with the documentation for the different versions.

In reading over the documentation more, I've found that many different sources (CCFv3 technical white paper, CCFv3 publication) actually seem to point to https://doi.org/10.1038/nature13186 instead as the publication for this atlas, so I'll update the documentation and the packaging scripts accordingly.

Oh really? They point towards that publication for the CCFv2? I understand why some might for the v3 but for v2 confuses me a bit. Could you point me towards what parts of those papers you are referring to? Thank you for reading into this in so much detail!

just read it

. A second version (in 2011) of a refined CCF (CCF v2) was constructed to support the volumetric spatial mapping
requirements of the Allen Mouse Brain Connectivity Atlas (Oh et al., 2014) where a double-sided and more
deeply annotated framework was needed.

Wow I had no idea. Good catch :)
