What is this?

Word of Mouth ModDB is a companion mod to ALifePlus by damian_sirbu for Stalker Anomaly. It adds several new conversation options. In addition, NPCs will also gossip in social areas, and announce their ALifePlus goals when they change.

This mod does not adjust AI or ALife in any way. No conflicts, safe to add / remove mid-save, load order doesn't matter.

The new conversion options are found under the "I want to ask you something" option as of v1.3.4. They are:

  • What have you been up to? NPCs will report on their day
  • Any interesting news? NPCs will report on any interesting ALifePlus events on a location on the current map (mutant infestations, area conquers, etc)
  • How are you holding up? NPCs will give an account of their health and any particularly high or low ALifePlus needs.
  • Who's holding ground around here? NPCs will talk about any held territory, including outposts with any special NPCs like a trader or barman.

Combat tracking

Word of Mouth adds combat tracking (both online and offline), including faction participation and kills. NPCs will mention combat encounters when talking about their day or happenings at a location.

If this mod is enabled mid-save, NPCs won’t be aware of any combat encounters before this mod was activated, but they will begin to report as combat occurs.

Chatter

You’ll also hear chatter from nearby NPCs (configurable in MCM):

  • When NPCs in your vicinity change ALifePlus goals, they’ll announce it.
  • NPCs at campfires and other social areas will periodically share a rumor, talk about their day, or mention their ALifePlus needs.

Known Issues

  • Some dialogue has strange phrasing, this is partially due to limited data available.

FAQ

Why are NPCs doing things that don’t match their ALifePlus goal?

ALifePlus can direct NPCs to a location, but cannot control what NPCs actually do once they get there. This means NPCs may end up sitting by a campfire even though they said they were going on a trade run.

Why are some NPCs repeating the same action several times?

You will sometimes run into squads who tell you that they’ve healed up or eaten several times in a row. This is ALifePlus behavior, which this Word of Mouth does not modify. My guess is that although ALifePlus found a need (eat, heal, etc), the NPCs themselves never took care of the need (by eating or healing), so the behavior triggered again.

Why do some NPCs not have much to say?

ALifePlus does not control every squad all the time, so many NPCs you talk to will not have much to say about their day.

Does this support Warfare?

It has not been tested in warfare, but should work just fine. NPCs will not gossip about territory changes due to warfare.
