Open dataset behind the study Digital Tax Transparency in Germany 2026 by BuchhaltungsButler & DataPulse Research.

How confident German taxpayers feel about correctly declaring platform (eBay, Vinted, Airbnb) and crypto (Coinbase, Bitpanda) income now that providers report it automatically under the PStTG and KStTG, broken down by age and gender. Representative Norstat survey, n=1,010, January 2026.

Key findings

  • 52.9% of Germans feel unsure or overwhelmed about correctly declaring platform and crypto income under the new automatic-reporting rules (Norstat, n=1,010).
  • The feeling of being overwhelmed rises steeply with age: 7.4% of 30-39 year-olds say they cannot manage it without a professional, against 25.0% of those aged 60-64.
  • Only 16.1% feel they have full command of the rules.
  • Women feel less confident than men: 55.4% unsure or overwhelmed versus 50.0%.
