Currently, moving a directory where there was previously a file causes history to be discarded.
It would be better if a directory marker was created, and the contents was moved without destroying file history.
Use of hardlinks (if supported by the underlying FS) would be a nice way to preserve history without inflating storage cost.
There might be other scenarios in which file history is discarded.
