What this changes

Daily sync of the Codex CLI placemat from v0.160.1 to v0.161.0. The only placemat-relevant, verified change: /mcp gains a login <name> subcommand to sign in to a streamable HTTP MCP server's OAuth flow from the terminal (added as a note on the existing i-mcp row, card-slash-tools). Bumped the release tag, print-head and footer "Content synced" date to v0.161.0 / 2026-10-07.

Other items in the v0.161.0 release notes (GPT-6.1 Sol becoming the default model, Bedrock multi-agent V2/Ultra/GovCloud support, voice device selection, the opt-in Daybreak flag, and the per-turn Cyber access program in codex exec/the TypeScript SDK) have no documented config key, CLI flag, or slash syntax yet in developer-commands.md or config-reference.md, so they were left off rather than guessed at.

Re-checked all existing class="unverified" rows (/tui, /daemon, instant_interrupt, mcp_oauth_callback_port, mcp_optional_startup_grace_ms) against freshly fetched docs this run — none are confirmed yet, so none were promoted.

Type

  • Bug fix (broken layout, link, behavior)
  • Content correction (wrong/outdated/missing entry)
  • Design / CSS / accessibility
  • Style guide or structural change
  • New agent placemat
  • Docs (README / AGENTS.md / CONTRIBUTING)
  • CI / tooling

Checklist

  • I read AGENTS.md's Style Guide and Content Rules
  • node tests/placemat.test.js passes locally (54 passed, 0 failed)
  • node scripts/build-changes.js --all --check passes locally (generated files are fresh)
  • No versions/*.html files were edited (they're frozen snapshots — no exceptions)
  • No hand-edited changes.json or feed.xml — both are generator output (build-changes.js codex)
  • Every new/changed row is sourced from Codex's own vendor docs/changelog — never copied or inferred from a sibling placemat
  • Anything I could only infer, rather than confirm, carries class="unverified" (none added this run — the one change is confirmed from the release notes' exact quoted syntax)
  • New rows have an id="i-<slug>" and a matching .row-link permalink (no new rows this run; existing i-mcp row's notes were extended)
  • Only one agent directory is touched (codex/)

Source

  • Version poll: api.github.com gated in the sync sandbox → fell back to releases.atom + the /releases HTML page per sources.json → version_poll.fallbacks, confirming rust-v0.161.0 is tagged "Latest" (not pre-release/draft)
  • Cross-check: https://registry.npmjs.org/@openai/codex → dist-tags.latest = 0.161.0
  • Release notes: https://github.com/openai/codex/releases/tag/rust-v0.161.0 (body above the ## Changelog heading)
  • Confirmed current /mcp doc behavior and absence of the other release-note items from config-reference.md, config-basic.md, and developer-commands.md?surface=cli

Verified via GitHub releases.atom + /releases HTML (api.github.com is
gated in this sandbox), cross-checked against npm dist-tags.latest.

- /mcp gains a login <name> subcommand to sign in to a streamable HTTP
MCP server's OAuth flow from the terminal (card-slash-tools)
- bump release tag, print-head and footer sync date to v0.161.0 / 2026-10-07
- re-checked existing unverified items (/tui, /daemon, instant_interrupt,
  mcp_oauth_callback_port, mcp_optional_startup_grace_ms) against freshly
fetched docs; none are confirmed yet, so none were promoted

Other 0.161.0 changelog items (GPT-6.1 Sol default model, Bedrock
multi-agent V2/Ultra/GovCloud, voice device selection, Daybreak, the
per-turn Cyber access program) have no documented config key, flag or
slash syntax yet in the CLI reference or config reference, so they were
left off rather than guessed.

Merge-gate review (code-review skill, medium effort)

Ran independently of the pipeline's Step 8 self-review, against the diff at 2e4ab80.

Verdict: clean — no CRITICAL/HIGH findings.

Checked:

  • Content accuracy: /mcp login <name> confirmed directly against the rust-v0.161.0 GitHub release notes; the "streamable HTTP" qualifier matches the existing OAuth-scope language already on the docs page.
  • Parity: header .release-tag, .print-head, and footer "Content synced" all agree at v0.161.0 / 2026-10-07; changelog's newest rel-0-161-0 heading matches.
  • Style guide: change is a note on the existing i-mcp row (not an append to the summary), no banned words, row id unchanged, proper escaping, no class="new" written.
  • Inventory rule: no new row added (note-only change on an existing row), so no sources.json → inventory bump was required.
  • Build/tests: node scripts/build-changes.js codex --check clean, node tests/placemat.test.js codex 54/54 pass, full suite 218/218 pass, --all --check clean.
  • Scope: git merge-tree against origin/main confirms only codex/* is touched, clean merge.

No findings to report.
