StarNet2 Photoshop Panel

English | 한국어

English

StarNet2 Photoshop Panel is a Windows CEP extension that runs the StarNet2 CLI from Photoshop and imports the star-removal results as layers.

Current version: v0.9.6

Features

  • Process the selected regular pixel layer with StarNet2
  • Create Starless, Stars, and Star Boost (Large) result layers
  • Automatically apply a Photoshop selection or the current layer mask to the results
  • Preserve the source layer through a non-destructive workflow
  • Cancel processing, roll back partial results on failure, and automatically clean temporary files
  • Detect the system language automatically and provide Korean and English UI options

Requirements

  • Windows
  • A version of Adobe Photoshop that supports CEP Extensions (Legacy)
  • StarNet2 CLI 2.5.x or 2.6.x
  • The StarNet2 distribution for Windows DirectML

End users do not need to install Node.js separately. The panel uses the Node runtime included with Photoshop CEP.

This repository does not include the StarNet2 executable or models. Install the StarNet2 CLI separately.

Installation

  1. Close Photoshop completely.
  2. Download the entire repository and extract it.
  3. Run Install_Windows.bat.
  4. Restart Photoshop after installation finishes.
  5. Open Window > Extensions (Legacy) > StarNet2.

The panel is installed in:

%APPDATA%\Adobe\CEP\extensions\StarNet-Panel

This panel is currently an unsigned CEP extension. When necessary, the installer asks whether it may enable PlayerDebugMode for the current Windows user. It skips this step when the setting is already enabled.

The installer and uninstaller detect the Windows user language and display Korean or English. To override the detected language, set STARNET_LANG=ko or STARNET_LANG=en before running the script.

Configuring the StarNet2 executable

  1. Select the settings icon in the upper-right corner of the panel.
  2. Enter the full path to starnet2.exe under StarNet2 Executable.
  3. Select Save to validate and store the executable path.

If starnet2.exe is available through the Windows PATH, you may enter only its filename.

Using Star Removal

  1. Open the document to process in Photoshop.
  2. Select a regular pixel layer.
  3. If needed, open Show Details and choose the result layers and processing quality.
  4. Select Run StarNet2.

To process the composite of multiple visible layers, first create a merged pixel layer in Photoshop and then select that layer.

Result layers

Layer Blend mode Purpose
Starless Normal Image with stars removed
Stars Screen Restores all stars in their default state
Star Boost (Large) Screen Adds extra emphasis to large stars

Large Star Boost Strength controls the opacity of the Star Boost (Large) layer. Its default value is 60%.

2× Upsample can improve the processing of small stars or difficult star shapes, but increases processing time and memory usage.

Automatic result masks

Star Removal determines the result mask in this order when processing begins:

  1. If a Photoshop selection exists, it is applied as the mask of each result layer.
  2. If there is no selection and the current layer has a mask, that mask is copied to the results.
  3. If neither exists, result layers are created without masks.

When both a selection and a layer mask exist, the selection takes priority. The source pixels are processed without applying the existing layer mask, and the selected result mask is applied to each result only once.

Source protection and temporary files

  • The source Photoshop document and source layer are not modified directly.
  • Results are placed immediately above the layer that was selected when processing started.
  • Input and result TIFF files are removed after success, failure, or cancellation.
  • StarNet2 temporary files older than 24 hours are cleaned when the panel starts.
  • Temporary Photoshop documents created during processing are closed without saving.
  • The input document's ICC profile information is reassigned while importing the result layers.

Uninstallation

  1. Close Photoshop completely.
  2. Run Uninstall_Windows.bat.
  3. Keep PlayerDebugMode enabled if another unsigned CEP panel still requires it.

Development and testing

Node.js is not required for ordinary panel use. It is required only in the development environment to run the repository's Node-based tests.

node tests/run-tests.js

With Photoshop running, you can execute the integration test:

powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\tests\Run_Photoshop_Integration.ps1

The integration test creates a temporary Photoshop document and closes it automatically without saving.

현재 버전: v0.9.6

  • Starless, Stars, Star Boost (Large)

  • Windows
  • Adobe Photoshop CEP Extensions (Legacy)

  1. Photoshop
  3. Install_Windows.bat을 실행합니다.
  5. Window > Extensions (Legacy) > StarNet2

%APPDATA%\Adobe\CEP\extensions\StarNet-Panel

필요하면 실행 전에 STARNET_LANG=ko 또는 STARNET_LANG=en을 지정할 수 있습니다.

Star Removal 사용법

  1. Photoshop

Starless
Stars
Star Boost (Large)

Star Removal

  1. Photoshop
  2. Uninstall_Windows.bat을 실행합니다.

node tests/run-tests.js

powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\tests\Run_Photoshop_Integration.ps1
