Summary

  • Update CONTRIBUTING.md: replace Poetry instructions with uv (uv sync, uv run)
  • Update README.rst: modernise setup instructions
  • Remove outdated direnv/poetry shell guidance

Test plan

  • Documentation reads correctly and instructions work
  • CI green

Part 5 of 9 in the modernisation series. Branches from #623 (independent of #624).
