pdflatex macros defined with \newcommand{}[]{} or \renewcommand are converted by Authorea into latexml syntax : \newcommand{}[][]{}. This syntax is not supported by pdflatex and it is thus not possible to compile locally.
This code revert the conversion back to the pdflatex format for the macro.
