@geerlingguy @framps here's the first batch of patches. Please test it out too and let me know.

@geerlingguy see if you can try this out. I only tested an existent NVMe to SD card update.

After this one I have https://github.com/XhmikosR/rpi-clone/compare/xmr/dev3...XhmikosR:rpi-clone:xmr/dev4?w=1 for later if I have a little more time :)

Just out of curiosity, and not to kick off a flame-war with "you-know-who": Has anyone here looked at the possibility of adopting the usb-boot.zip script from the RPi forums - instead of continuing to tinker with this?

@seamusdemora - what's that script? I haven't seen it, the only thing I think of hearing that is https://github.com/raspberrypi/usbboot but that seems to have an entirely different purpose.

@geerlingguy - You can only find it in the forums b/c it's authored by a user - not the RPi organization. I think you can find it here: https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=196778&hilit=usb+boot.zip
It was last updated Oct 14, 2025. I learned of it by reading the forum (don't recall where), but I recall the author (RonR) recommended it for moving an SD card install to an NVME card. All I really remember was that it worked. :)
