A set of Home Assistant automation blueprints for AWTRIX 3 / Svitrix compatible matrix displays (e.g. Ulanzi TC001), written from scratch against the public AWTRIX 3 API documentation.
They talk to the display directly over MQTT, so they work with AWTRIX, Svitrix and any other firmware implementing the same API. Just pick your display from a dropdown when creating the automation — the MQTT topic is detected automatically. (A manual topic input is still available for displays that are not auto-discovered.)
Show a notification triggered by anything (state, event, time, webhook...), with optional conditions. Icon, colors, gradient, rainbow, RTTTL sound, background effects, hold/stack/dismiss, wake-up. No forced toggle helpers.
Persistent custom app showing any entity's state. Always-on mode (temperatures, power...) or conditional mode (the app appears only while the entity is active: irrigation on, heater on, person detected...). Optional progress bar for numeric states (battery %).
Animated icon per weather condition plus temperature (from the weather entity
or your own outdoor sensor). Every condition icon is configurable (LaMetric ID
or local /ICONS file).
Hourly precipitation drawn as a bar or line chart (one pixel column per hour, up to 32). Can auto-hide when no rain is expected.
Use one of the three corner indicators as a status light driven by any entity (solid, blink or fade). Create one automation per indicator.
- Home Assistant 2025.2 or newer.
- An MQTT broker connected to Home Assistant.
- A matrix display running AWTRIX 3, Svitrix or compatible firmware, connected to the same broker.
- Copy the
blueprints/automation/svitrix/folder into your Home Assistantconfig/blueprints/automation/directory. - Reload automations: Developer Tools → YAML → Automations (or restart HA).
- Create a new automation from Settings → Automations & Scenes → Create automation → blueprint, pick one of the "Matrix Display" blueprints.
Every blueprint starts with a Display(s) dropdown listing your AWTRIX /
Svitrix devices (any MQTT device from manufacturer "Blueforcer", which covers
both firmwares). Select one or more displays and you are done — the blueprint
reads the MQTT topic from the display's own sensor.*_device_topic entity.
If your display does not show up in the dropdown (for example it is not
auto-discovered by Home Assistant), expand the Advanced section and type
its MQTT topic prefix manually (e.g. svitrix_613070). You can find it in
the display web UI (MQTT settings).
To use your own animated icons, upload GIF files (8x8 or 32x8) to the display
/ICONS folder and reference them by file name without extension:
curl -F "data=@sunny.gif" http://<display-ip>/edit?filename=/ICONS/sunny.gifThen use sunny as the icon name in the blueprint. You can also use numeric
LaMetric gallery IDs directly (the display downloads them on first use).
The blueprints with an icon input (Notification, Entity App, Weather App) can
warn you with a persistent notification if a numeric LaMetric icon ID does
not exist (the gallery returns HTTP 404). Blueprints cannot perform HTTP
requests by themselves, so this needs a small one-time shell_command in your
configuration.yaml:
shell_command:
check_lametric_icon: "curl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}' https://developer.lametric.com/content/apps/icon_thumbs/{{ icon_id }}"Then reload shell commands (Developer Tools → YAML → Shell commands) or restart Home Assistant once. You can turn the check off per automation with the Validate icon toggle in the Advanced section.
Notes:
- If the
shell_commandis missing, validation is silently skipped and everything else works as usual. - To avoid hammering the gallery, Entity App and Weather App only validate on state/weather changes, not on their periodic refresh.
- Named icons (your own files in
/ICONS) are not validated — only numeric LaMetric IDs.
saveoption: persisting apps in flash (save: true) wears the display flash on every update. It is disabled by default; enable it only for apps that change rarely.- These blueprints are an independent implementation and are not affiliated with AWTRIX, Svitrix or Ulanzi.
