Use `-check.timeout=<duration string>` to set a timeout period for each check. If the timeout is reached, the test suite will panic. Signed-off-by: Brian Goff <cpuguy83@gmail.com>

This PR is a refactored version of #80. Unfortunately, this doesn't address the issue of continuing the execution of the tests when a test has timed out and this needs to be addressed in a future PR.
