Basic ECS Terraform code for PHP and Nginx

Build the ECS infrastructure

Update the variables in dev.tfvars to fit your needs

terraform apply -var-file="dev.tfvars"

Build docker images using dockerx

This will build, tag and push the new image to you ECR repo

Note: You will need to create the ECR repos. For these examples we've created them already and marked them as private

Login to set temporary creds

aws ecr get-login-password --region us-east-1 | docker login --username AWS --password-stdin <account id>.dkr.ecr.us-east-1.amazonaws.com

Build nginx image

docker buildx build --platform linux/amd64 -t <account number>.dkr.ecr.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/<image name>:latest --push ./docker-nginx

Build php image

docker buildx build --platform linux/amd64 -t <account number>.dkr.ecr.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/<image name>:latest --push ./docker-php

Force a new deployment

Nginx

aws ecs update-service --cluster <your cluster name> --service nginx-service --force-new-deployment

PHP

aws ecs update-service --cluster <your cluster name> --service php-service --force-new-deployment

View your app

Go to your load balancer and get the DNS name of it and then put that in your url to view the app
