Adds a Signed commits section to this repo's CONTRIBUTING, per owner ruling D218. The estate policy is docs/SIGNING-POLICY.adoc in hyperpolymath/standards.

This repo's default branch is covered by the zero-bypass Require-Signed-Commits ruleset, and rebase-merge is off. The section tells contributors what that requires:

  • People and interactive agents sign with an SSH signing key.
  • Apps, bots and workflows write through the API, so GitHub signs their commits.
  • PRs are merged with squash.

This is a docs-only change. The commit was created through createCommitOnBranch, so GitHub signs it.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Documented the signed-commit requirements for changes reaching the default branch, including signing methods for people and automated tools.
    • Clarified that unsigned commits on pull requests block merging, squash merges are required, and rebase merges are disabled.

Walkthrough

The contributor guides now document signed-commit requirements for commits reaching the default branch. They specify signing methods for different contributor types and describe merge restrictions, including the use of squash merges.

Changes

Commit signing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Contributor signing and merge guidance
.github/CONTRIBUTING.md, CONTRIBUTING.adoc
Both guides describe signing requirements and permitted methods. They document squash merging and restrictions related to unsigned pull request commits and rebase merging. CONTRIBUTING.adoc also explains how to recreate a branch with signed commits.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 1 (Trivial) | ~5 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 10ec7

The guide gives contributors conflicting GPG and SSH instructions, which may lead them to use a method inconsistent with project policy. This is a localized documentation fix; confirm the reported live merge settings before relying on those statements.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 10ec7

The change clarifies how contributors recover from unsigned commits without relaxing the existing signing requirements. It changes documentation, not permissions or enforcement. No introduced security risk was established; live repository protection settings were not verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The directly affected security scope is contributor guidance for commits entering this repository’s default branch. The inspected change does not expand credentials, automation authority, or deployment access.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The guides state that a ruleset rejects unsigned commits and that rebase merging is disabled. These are documented external controls, not verification of the live GitHub configuration.

A rabbit signs each commit with care,
Then checks the branch before the merge.
SSH keys and squash marks guide the way,
While unsigned commits must wait their day.
The rabbit hops; the rules stay clear.
