… the duplicate Two contributing files were live at once: `CONTRIBUTING.adoc` at the root (a four-step policy stub) and `.github/CONTRIBUTING.md` (the guide GitHub discovers). The stub's steps are folded into the guide under "Contribution workflow" before removal, so nothing is lost.

Two contributing files were live at once:
CONTRIBUTING.adocat the repository root — a four-step policy stub.github/CONTRIBUTING.md— the guide, at the location GitHub actually discoversThe root copy is invisible to GitHub's contributor UI and would drift from the guide (and did — it never gained the setup instructions the guide has).
Content preserved: the stub's workflow (
1. Fork the repository…4. Submit a pull request) is folded into the guide under Contribution workflow before removal. Nothing is lost. The deletion was recorded as "landed or superseded" in the campaign ledger; re-checking said otherwise — the stub is still on
main, and the hooks half of the same patch is landed (.github/hooks/,.githooks/gone,dogfood-gate.ymlupdated), so only this hunk remained.
