Adds a Signed commits section to this repo's CONTRIBUTING, per owner ruling D218. The estate policy is docs/SIGNING-POLICY.adoc in hyperpolymath/standards.

This repo's default branch is covered by the zero-bypass Require-Signed-Commits ruleset, and rebase-merge is off. The section tells contributors what that requires:

  • People and interactive agents sign with an SSH signing key.
  • Apps, bots and workflows write through the API, so GitHub signs their commits.
  • PRs are merged with squash.

If the file already had its own signing section, that section is replaced in place instead of adding a second one. Lines elsewhere that told people to sign with GPG are changed to match the policy (SSH for people).

This is a docs-only change. The commit was created through createCommitOnBranch, so GitHub signs it.

Walkthrough

The contribution guide adds requirements for signed commits, API-based commit creation by apps and automation, and squash-merging pull requests.

Changes

Commit signing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Signing and merge rules
.github/CONTRIBUTING.md
People and interactive agents must sign commits with a registered SSH signing key and verified committer email. Apps, bots and workflows must use the API to create commits. Pull requests must use squash merges; unsigned commits block merging, and rebase-merge is disabled.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 1 (Trivial) | ~3 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 51477

Contributors following the documented recovery steps cannot complete the rewrite. The issue is limited to that recovery workflow; the PR is otherwise mergeable with this correction noted.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 51477

The change documents signing and merge requirements without introducing new execution paths or permissions. No introduced security weakness was established, but the claimed repository enforcement and automation identity guarantees remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The policy's affected scope is contributor and automation interaction with repository history and PR merging. The reviewed change does not establish a new application, tenant, data-store, or deployment attack path.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — The guide places signing and merge enforcement at the GitHub boundary. Its assertions about refused unsigned pushes, branch-commit checks, API signing, and disabled rebase merging describe expected controls; the local documentation does not independently verify those controls or automation permissions.
