Owner

Adds a Signed commits section to this repo's CONTRIBUTING, per owner ruling D218. The estate policy is docs/SIGNING-POLICY.adoc in hyperpolymath/standards.

This repo's default branch is covered by the zero-bypass Require-Signed-Commits ruleset, and rebase-merge is off. The section tells contributors what that requires:

  • People and interactive agents sign with an SSH signing key.
  • Apps, bots and workflows write through the API, so GitHub signs their commits.
  • PRs are merged with squash.

If the file already had its own signing section, that section is replaced in place instead of adding a second one. Lines elsewhere that told people to sign with GPG are changed to match the policy (SSH for people).

This is a docs-only change. The commit was created through createCommitOnBranch, so GitHub signs it.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in .github/CONTRIBUTING.md: Adds signed-commit requirements and instructions for human contributors, automated actors, and PR merging. It states that unsigned pushes are refused, specifies SSH signing configuration and verified-email requirements for people and interactive agents, directs apps, bots and workflows to create commits through the API or signed-push, and requires squash merges because unsigned commits anywhere on the PR branch block merging. Rebase-merge is disabled; unsigned branches should be recreated with signed cherry-picks and opened as new PRs.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Qualify the API signing instruction.

The REST Git Database API does not sign commits automatically. An app or workflow that follows this wording through that route can create an unsigned commit, which the signed-commit ruleset can reject. createCommitOnBranch is signed automatically only when GitHub supports signing for that operation.

Suggested fix
- through the API (`createCommitOnBranch` or the estate `signed-push` action)
- so that GitHub signs each commit.
+ through GraphQL `createCommitOnBranch` (which GitHub signs automatically when
+ supported) or the estate `signed-push` action. Other API commit-creation
+ routes, such as REST Git Database, require a valid detached signature.
