Summary

Closes #173.

  • Replace echidna-core-spark with stable echidna-core 0.2.0 pinned to full upstream revision 645d7a2489c644706210e171acba6f52741ad3b8. Verified via the echidna commits/main API on 2026-10-09 (merged upstream PR #415), not an unmerged branch.
  • Route both trust modules through echidna_core::trust, including their documentation links. No local trust algorithm changes.
  • Remove stale rename follow-ups and record the revision while retaining the explicit main-only pin policy.
  • Preserve the local ProverKind slug and local prove_result parser unchanged.
  • Update the existing STATE descriptile; no new files or .a2ml files.
  • Update Cargo.lock from pinned upstream manifests and its strum 0.28.0 / strum_macros 0.28.0 lock records, preserving unrelated dependencies. This was a manual, narrowly scoped lock update, not a Cargo-generated result.

Verification — draft pending Rust-enabled validation

  • PASS: git diff --check.
  • PASS: dispatcher source unchanged.
  • BLOCKED: cargo build — exit 127, cargo: command not found.
  • BLOCKED: cargo test — exit 127, cargo: command not found; existing trust-module unit tests have not run.
  • BLOCKED: just validate-rsr — just: command not found.
  • Before marking ready: run build and full tests with pinned Rust 1.99.0, verify lockfile resolution and both trust-module test paths.
  • Sandbox has no GPG tooling/signing key; commit is unsigned.

Coordination with #166

Issue #166 is still open, but this base already specifies tracing-opentelemetry 0.34 and locks rustls 0.23.45. This PR changes neither OTel nor TLS dependencies and does not claim to resolve #166 or verify its security checks. Keep any remaining fixes there, separate from this migration.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Updates
    • The trust-checking integration now uses the shared trust implementation. Local scanning of prover output remains unchanged.
  • Documentation
    • Integration guidance now reflects the updated trust-checking arrangement and records that verification is pending.
  • Maintenance
    • The underlying trust package reference has been updated. Build and test verification could not be completed because Cargo was unavailable.

Walkthrough

The trust dependency now points to echidna-core at a pinned revision. Trust imports and integration documentation use its trust API. The local prover-output scanner remains in place. Build and test verification is pending because Cargo is unavailable.

Changes

Trust dependency re-point

Layer / File(s) Summary
Pin the stable trust dependency
Cargo.toml, docs/ECHIDNA-INTEGRATION.adoc, .machine_readable/descriptiles/STATE.a2ml
The dependency now targets echidna-core at revision 645d7a2489c644706210e171acba6f52741ad3b8. The integration documentation and session metadata record the revision and note that build and test verification is pending because Cargo is unavailable.
Update trust API references
src/trust/confidence.rs, src/trust/axiom_tracker.rs, docs/ECHIDNA-INTEGRATION.adoc
Trust-level and axiom-scanner references now use echidna_core::trust. The integration documentation continues to describe prover-output scanning as local.

Review details

Systems and components

  • observed — src (service) was modified; 2 changed files map to changed impact.
  • observed — Cargo.toml (service) was modified; 1 changed file maps to changed impact.
  • observed — docs (service) was modified; 1 changed file maps to changed impact.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in Cargo.toml: The dependency changes from echidna-core-spark at revision b761b3a832981be51d4e88076ef1b90fe5037e9c to echidna-core at revision 645d7a2489c644706210e171acba6f52741ad3b8; the comments now identify the shared trust algorithm and axiom scanner as provided by the new dependency.
  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/ECHIDNA-INTEGRATION.adoc: The documentation changes the trust-level and proof-source scan paths from echidna_core_spark to echidna_core; it continues to describe the prover-output text scan as local.
  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/ECHIDNA-INTEGRATION.adoc: The dependency description now specifies echidna-core 0.2.0 at revision 645d7a2489c644706210e171acba6f52741ad3b8, verified on main on 2026-10-09, and says standalone builds must not use a path dependency. It changes the status from implemented and tested to implemented, notes that build and test verification of the re-point is pending because Cargo is unavailable, and retains the statement that the kernel’s Creusot annotations are not claimed as proved.
  • observed — Modified behavior in src/trust/axiom_tracker.rs: The documentation and import now refer to echidna_core::trust::axiom_tracker instead of echidna_core_spark::axiom_tracker; the descriptions of source scanning and output scanning otherwise remain unchanged.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

The dependency change, trust import paths, documentation links, removed follow-up notes, revision record, and preserved local parser details address the coding objectives in [#173]. The STATE update is also reported. However, cargo build and cargo test did not run because Cargo was unavailable, so green builds, unchanged trust behaviour, and the existing trust-module tests are not established. [#166] remains directly linked, but this PR explicitly does not change its OTel or TLS dependencies, and its required checks and dependency grouping are not verified. Cargo.lock is excluded from review, so its contents cannot resolve this uncertainty.

Resolution

Provide reviewable evidence for [#173] that cargo build and cargo test pass, including both trust-module test paths and the required behaviour checks. Provide evidence that the active requirements of [#166], including its dependency grouping and required checks, are satisfied, or remove [#166] as a direct link if it is context only.

I’m a rabbit with a trust-path to trace,
I hop to the stable crate in its place.
The axiom scanner joins the new route,
While local output checks still stay put.
Cargo is absent, so tests must wait;
I nibble the notes and mark the state.

The import path is valid at the pinned revision. echidna-core re-exports the public axiom_tracker module and its required items through trust. No review finding remains.

The import compatibility cannot be decided. echidna-core documents a stable trust surface, but the pinned revision's source is unavailable and no authoritative search result exposes these exports. The comment does not establish an import failure.

Update the remaining echidna_core_spark import.

tests/live_echidna.rs:11 still imports echidna_core_spark::axiom_tracker::DangerLevel, but the project now declares echidna-core. Update the import to the new trust-module path.

## Summary
Owner-requested tooling follow-up to merged #174 (trust-kernel
migration, #173).

- Replace generic mise config with Just 1.58.0 and discovery of the
canonical rust-toolchain.toml pin; provide Cargo tasks and real Just
build/test/format/lint/fetch recipes.
- Add checksum-verified mise 2026.10.6 bootstrap for Linux
x86_64/aarch64, with prerequisite checks and fail-closed installs.
- Add an authenticated pinned Guix channel and native prerequisite
manifest, plus FHS environment instructions. Guix is explicitly opt-in
at owner request despite older estate deprecation guidance.
- Use Chainguard Wolfi for development, builder and runtime
Containerfile stages. Add a rootless Podman development wrapper with
named caches and no privileged mode or engine-socket mount, plus
build-context exclusions.
- Document fresh-checkout setup in docs/DEVELOPMENT.adoc, link from
README and update the existing STATE descriptile. New files have MPL-2.0
SPDX headers; no new .a2ml files.

## Validation
- PASS: bash syntax checks for bootstrap, Podman wrapper and offline
tests.
- PASS: bash tests/dev-tools.sh — mocked existing install, download
failure, checksum rejection, container build/run arguments and
missing-image failure.
- PASS: git diff --check.
- BLOCKED: actual mise/Just installation; GitHub release binaries
redirect to release-assets.githubusercontent.com, which the sandbox
cannot reach.
- BLOCKED: Rust distribution server and cgr.dev registry are
unreachable; Cargo/Just/Guix/Podman are absent, as are CMake/pkg-config
prerequisites. Real cargo build/test, Guix evaluation and Podman
build/run remain pending.
- Wolfi currently uses its rolling tag; digest override is supported but
no unverified digest is invented. APK repositories are also rolling; not
claimed bit-for-bit reproducible.
- These commits are unsigned: the sandbox lacks GPG tooling/key.

## Existing CI blocker
The previous PR #174 run at 0896185 failed Cargo check (exit 101), with
Cargo test skipped. Detailed logs redirect to an unavailable Actions
host; the cause is undiagnosed, not assumed to be #166. This follow-up
changes no application dependencies. Keep draft until real tool
installation, Rust build/tests, Guix shell and container execution have
been verified on an unrestricted host.

…proto (#180)

## Summary

Turns main's red Rust CI and cargo-audit jobs green. The same commit is
ported into #179, so this PR has no diff left once #179 merges.

## Changes

- `tests/live_echidna.rs`:
- #174 re-pointed the trust kernel from `echidna-core-spark` to
`echidna-core`, but this test still imported
`echidna_core_spark::axiom_tracker::DangerLevel`, so `cargo check
--all-targets` failed and `rust-ci / Cargo check + clippy + fmt` has
been red on main since.
- The type now lives at
`echidna_core::trust::axiom_tracker::DangerLevel`, the path
`src/trust/axiom_tracker.rs` already uses.
- `Cargo.lock`:
- quinn-proto 0.11.16 → 0.11.19 (RUSTSEC-2026-0338..0342, fixed in ≥
0.11.18), via `cargo update -p quinn-proto --precise 0.11.19`.
  - No other entry changes.
- This fixes `rust-ci / Cargo audit (security)` and `Dependency audit`.

## Verification (local)

- `cargo check --locked --all-targets`: pass.
- `cargo fmt --all -- --check`: pass.
- `cargo clippy --locked --all-targets -- -D warnings`: pass.
- `cargo audit`: no vulnerabilities. Three advisory warnings remain:
event-listener RUSTSEC-2026-0221 (unsound), and chacha20 and spin, which
are yanked.
- `cargo test --locked --test integration_tests --test lifecycle --test
property_tests --test seam_test --test smoke`, the CI test set: all pass
(32 + 23 + 12 + 15 + 8 and the doc-filtered runs).
