Replaces dawidd6/action-send-mail with hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action v0.2.0 (tag commit ede1191ef6ff3ac02c4f4d9efdf837ee517e11d7), per the 2026-09-02 ruling (standards spec §5.5/§9, PR hyperpolymath/standards#725). The whole file is replaced with the rsr-template-repo canonical, which — besides the uses: line — restricts the trigger to branch pushes (tag and deletion payloads mislabel Branch:/head_commit), sets timeout-minutes: 5, carries a deliberately per-run concurrency group, and grants only contents: read. How many of those are actual changes here depends on how far this repo's copy had drifted — read the diff, not this list. Dormant gating on vars.PUSH_EMAIL_ENABLED == 'true' is unchanged. Line 1 SPDX header kept as it was.

Engine: .git-private-farm/scripts/smtp-notify-sweep.sh. Verification for this repo: regime=no-lock changed=.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml, sig=G 761628d canon=543fc1474b54 base=main
(pristine/post = gh actions-lock --no-fix validity before/after; repair = the lock was already invalid before this change and is valid after it.)

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Improved push email notification reliability by limiting notifications to branch pushes.
    • Prevented overlapping workflow runs from cancelling one another.
    • Added safeguards to stop jobs from running indefinitely.
    • Updated the email notification service and pinned it to a verified version.

Walkthrough

The push email workflow now runs only for branch pushes. It uses independent run groups, reduced permissions, a five-minute timeout, and a SHA-256-pinned SMTP notification action.

Changes

Push email workflow

Layer / File(s) Summary
Workflow execution controls
.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml
Branch filtering excludes tag and deletion payloads. Per-run concurrency prevents queuing and cancellation. Permissions now include only contents: read. The job has a five-minute timeout.
Pinned notification action
.github/workflows/push-email-notify.yml
The workflow documents the re-land and uses hyperpolymath/smtp-notify-action at the pinned v0.2.0 commit.

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 76162

The notification action has changed its SMTP TLS behavior. Merge readiness depends on the configured SMTP endpoint using implicit TLS, typically port 465; otherwise push email notifications will fail.

Poem

A rabbit checks the branch gate,
Then hops past tags that must not wait.
Five minutes marks the message run,
A pinned mail action gets it done.
No queued hares remain in sight.

6-10: LGTM!

Also applies to: 16-31, 32-33, 39-39

15-15: 🎯 Functional Correctness

Do not flag branch deletion from this filter alone.

The push payload can contain deleted: true, but the evidence does not establish that branches: ['**'] matches branch-deletion events.

Confirm that secrets.SMTP_PORT is an implicit-TLS port.

The pinned action uses implicit TLS when secure: true and does not implement STARTTLS. If secrets.SMTP_PORT is 587, the notification step can fail. Use an implicit-TLS endpoint, normally 465.
