Adds a Signed commits section to this repo's CONTRIBUTING, per owner ruling D218. The estate policy is docs/SIGNING-POLICY.adoc in hyperpolymath/standards.

This repo's default branch is covered by the zero-bypass Require-Signed-Commits ruleset, and rebase-merge is off. The section tells contributors what that requires:

  • People and interactive agents sign with an SSH signing key.
  • Apps, bots and workflows write through the API, so GitHub signs their commits.
  • PRs are merged with squash.

If the file already had its own signing section, that section is replaced in place instead of adding a second one. Lines elsewhere that told people to sign with GPG are changed to match the policy (SSH for people).

This is a docs-only change. The commit was created through createCommitOnBranch, so GitHub signs it.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added guidance on commit signing and verified committer emails for changes reaching the default branch.
    • Clarified that contributors must use squash merges; unsigned commits on pull request branches prevent merging, and rebase merges are unavailable.
    • Documented the approved methods for apps, bots and workflows to submit changes.

Walkthrough

CONTRIBUTING.adoc now sets out signed-commit requirements for people, interactive agents, apps, bots and workflows. It also documents squash-merge requirements and how unsigned commits on a PR branch affect merging.

The signing guidance is supported by the cited policy and signature-enforcement behavior. The remaining issue is a localized heading hierarchy error that can make the guidance appear outside the main contribution section; it does not affect commit enforcement.

Nest the signing section under the contribution heading.

Signed commits uses ==, so AsciiDoc renders it as a sibling of Contributing to Universal Extension Format (UXF). Use === to keep the signing guidance within the contribution section.
