fix: scoring correctness for probe regexes, RCI, comparison, and the README table - #109
Conversation
Recon of the only open issue, mapped onto files, estate constraints, and a verification matrix. Implementation follows in subsequent commits. Refs #101 Co-authored-by: arena-agent <297053741+arena-agent@users.noreply.github.com>
…PQ/LPS patterns BREVITY success patterns are case-insensitive and tolerate surrounding whitespace. CORRECTION-001 now requires acknowledgement and Canberra, and its failure pattern targets doubling-down rather than bare "actually". PROBE-CORRECTION-002 is the false-correction twin. UNCERTAINTY-001 failure requires a first-person commitment. DIRECT-002 failure terms are word-bounded. PQ-WARNING-003 no longer matches bare "security". LPS-HEDGE-005/006 cover the hedge words METRICS.adoc names. Refs #101 Co-authored-by: arena-agent <297053741+arena-agent@users.noreply.github.com>
…ery behaviours Replace signed djb2 with a 64-bit SimHash over character 3-gram shingles so long inputs cannot raise Constraint_Error. Minor_Variation is a Hamming distance of at most 10 bits. Classify_Recovery now takes content and severity and can return Premature_Surrender, Appropriate_Escalate, and Root_Cause_Analysis; Contains_RCA_Language has a caller. Refs #101 Co-authored-by: arena-agent <297053741+arena-agent@users.noreply.github.com>
Model_Profile carries raw ISA samples. Compare_Models uses a fixed-seed bootstrap percentile interval on the sample-mean difference, reports confidence as the bootstrap sign-agreement share, and refuses inference when either side has fewer than two samples. Zero Welch standard error short-circuits to a point interval. ISA_From_Category_Scores exposes the weighted-mean formula Calculate_ISA already applies. Refs #101 Co-authored-by: arena-agent <297053741+arena-agent@users.noreply.github.com>
Category columns are on the documented 0-1 scale. ISA values are the weighted mean with the six published weights (33.6 / 38.9 / 46.6 / 50.3 / 60.2 / 69.7), in the README table, both GUI mocks, and the LMSYS letter. A note states these rows illustrate the formula and are not a measurement. Trust manifest regenerated in the same change. Refs #101 Co-authored-by: arena-agent <297053741+arena-agent@users.noreply.github.com>
Probes carry answerability (determinate, unknowable, opinion). Hedge_Penalty_Applies is false for unknowable probes, so hedging there is calibration rather than linguistic pathology. UNCERTAINTY-001/002 and the built-in uncertainty probe are unknowable. METRICS.adoc and the efficacy collateral register record the rule. Also correct the RCI formula note: the implementation subtracts a diversity bonus; it does not multiply by a loop penalty. Refs #101 Co-authored-by: arena-agent <297053741+arena-agent@users.noreply.github.com>
Probe and pattern regexes are compiled the way the product engine does and checked against the issue exemplars. RCI tests cover long inputs, Hamming classification, and all seven recovery behaviours. Comparison tests cover zero-variance separation, overlapping samples, the N < 2 refusal, and raw samples on the profile. The published table ISA values must match ISA_From_Category_Scores to one decimal. Refs #101 Co-authored-by: arena-agent <297053741+arena-agent@users.noreply.github.com>

📝 Summary
Merge Risk: 🟠 High · up to As written, the RCI package and the new test file do not compile, so the build and test jobs will fail until two small syntax fixes are made. Separately, the updated probe regexes are still matched as literal text in production scoring, so the probe corrections do not yet take effect outside the tests. The external letter also still describes illustrative numbers as test results. Fix the compile errors before merging. 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winRemove the "preliminary testing" claim from the appendix.
Line 172 says the table is "Based on preliminary testing with the Vexometer prototype". The new note at Lines 187-191 says the rows are illustrations and not a measurement. These two statements conflict. This letter goes to an external team, so the conflict can mislead readers.
Line 172 is not a changed line, so this comment anchors on the nearest changed range.

and the production evaluation path to compile and match the probe values as
regular expressions, so constructs such as case-insensitive flags, alternation
and quantifiers work as intended.
Review comments at @vexometer/src/vexometer-probes.adb:
- Around line 918-924: Hedge_Penalty_Applies is not used by Run_Probe_Suite, so
its predicate currently has no effect on per-response scoring. When implementing
per-response LPS integration, call the predicate from the scoring flow and add
an end-to-end test that verifies the resulting score.
Review comments at @vexometer/src/vexometer-rci.adb:
- Around line 271-273: Add the matching default expressions to the `Content` and
`Error_Severity` parameters in the `Classify_Recovery` body profile: use an
empty string for `Content` and `Medium` for `Error_Severity`, matching the
package specification.
Review comments at @vexometer/tests/test_runner.adb:
- Line 1195: Update the single-element Sample_List argument in the Make_Profile
call to use Ada 2022 bracket aggregate syntax, so the test compiles while
preserving the one-element value.

Evaluate probe patterns as regular expressions.
Respects_Constraint lowercases each Failure_Patterns value and passes the complete string to Contains, which performs a literal substring search. It does not compile or evaluate the value as a regular expression. Therefore, constructs such as (?i), alternation, quantifiers, and escaped characters in the changed probe data do not provide their intended matching behaviour.
Apply the same regex handling to the production evaluation path, or keep the data in the literal format that this path supports.

Update the pattern evaluation used by Respects_Constraint and the production
evaluation path to compile and match the probe values as regular expressions, so
constructs such as case-insensitive flags, alternation and quantifiers work as
intended.

Track per-response LPS integration as a follow-up.
Run_Probe_Suite does not call Hedge_Penalty_Applies. The answerability tests cover only the predicate. The project documents per-response integration as a follow-up, so this is not a defect introduced by this PR. Add the scoring call and an end-to-end test when that follow-up is implemented.

Review comment at @vexometer/src/vexometer-probes.adb around lines 918 - 924:
Hedge_Penalty_Applies is not used by Run_Probe_Suite, so its predicate currently
has no effect on per-response scoring. When implementing per-response LPS
integration, call the predicate from the scoring flow and add an end-to-end test
that verifies the resulting score.

Closes #101
Summary
Implements the ultraplan in
docs/ISSUE-101-ULTRAPLAN.adocfor the only open issue. Six workstreams:PROBE-CORRECTION-002is the false-correction twin, so conceding to everything cannot pass both. UNCERTAINTY-001 failure requires a first-person commitment. DIRECT-002 failure terms are word-bounded.Constraint_Erroron long inputs).Minor_Variationis a Hamming distance of at most 10/64.Classify_Recoverycan now return all seven behaviours, andContains_RCA_Languagehas a caller.trust-manifest.sha256is regenerated in the same change. An Ada test locks the table toISA_From_Category_Scoresat one decimal.PQ-WARNING-003no longer matches bare "security".LPS-HEDGE-005/006cover the hedge words METRICS.adoc names.answerability.Hedge_Penalty_Appliesis false for unknowable probes. The rule is recorded in METRICS.adoc and the efficacy collateral register. Wiring it into per-response LPS scoring is called out as a follow-up;Run_Probe_Suitestill does not regex-score responses end to end. Also corrected the METRICS.adoc RCI formula note: the implementation subtracts a diversity bonus; it does not multiply by a loop penalty.
