Volume² Wiki

Volume² is an advanced volume control for Windows that replaces the standard Windows volume control. It adds mouse-wheel and hotkey control, per-application and per-device volume, an on-screen display (OSD) with skins, a task scheduler, and remote control over HTTP.

These pages cover installation, configuration and troubleshooting. For short answers to common questions, see the FAQ.

The three settings that solve most problems

Most problems come down to one of these three settings. If something is not working, try them before anything else.

  1. Volume control stops working after a while, or works again only after you click the tray icon. Settings → System → enable Restart the hooks every 500 ms. (FAQ #5)

  2. Volume does not change over administrator windows, the taskbar, or in some games. Settings → System → Run as Administrator, and set startup to As Task. Restart the program. (FAQ #1)

  3. It does not start with Windows. If it runs as administrator, plain autorun will not work — it must be As Task. (FAQ #3, FAQ #10)

Reporting problems

Report bugs on GitHub Issues: https://github.com/irzyxa/Volume2/issues

Include the Volume² build number, your Windows version and edition, whether you use the portable or installer build, whether the program runs as administrator, and the audio device involved. If you know the last version where the problem did not occur, say so — that is the most useful detail in a bug report.
