I put shares of DCM Shriram Industries Limited purchased before december 2025 demerger but corporate action sheet only shows split done in 2021 and as such quantity today is not changing

Thanks for reporting this — you found a real gap, and also one thing that's working correctly. Let me separate the two.

Your share count not changing is correct

A demerger doesn't take shares away from you: you keep every DCM Shriram Industries share you had, and you additionally receive shares in the companies that were spun off. Only splits, bonuses and consolidations change your count — which is why your 2021 split is there and is being applied.

So "Qty today" was right. What was missing is everything else the demerger should have done.

The real gap: the demerger wasn't in the app's data

Splits and bonuses arrive automatically from the exchange feeds, but mergers and demergers aren't published anywhere we can read reliably, so they ship as curated data inside each release. DCM Shriram Industries' December 2025 demerger simply hadn't been added yet. That's our miss, not anything you did wrong.

It's now added, and comes with the next release (v1.7.3)

Update, run it once, and you'll see:

• Two new rows — DCM Shriram Fine Chemicals and DCM Shriram International — one share of each per DCM Shriram Industries share you held on the record date (26-12-2025).
• Your original cost split the way the company told shareholders to split it: 42.66% stays with DCM Shriram Industries, 25.22% goes to Fine Chemicals, 32.12% to International.
• Your original buy date on both new rows, so the long-term tax clock keeps running from when you actually bought.

Your typed Quantity and Avg. cost cells are never rewritten — the new rows are added alongside them, and re-running the update won't add them twice.

Check this first: if you've already added the two new companies as rows by hand, delete those before updating, otherwise you'll end up with two copies.

You can enter it yourself today on the Corporate_Actions tab. Three rows, all with Type DEMERGER, Ex-Date 26-12-2025, Ratio From 1, Ratio To 1, ISIN INE843D01027 — leave Source and Applied blank:

I tried tata motors demerger by entering details in corporate action sheet The details are updated but since the new name column is not present isin is mentioned in the name field also. does it also check whether the date of purchase is before ex date.

Mutual fund name change and isin change also works and does it has a corporate action sheet for mutual fund also

Thanks — four good questions in one issue. Taking them in turn.

1. The ISIN showing up as the company name

You're right, and this is a genuine gap: the Corporate_Actions sheet has a New ISIN column but no New name column. When you enter a demerger by hand, the app has nothing to call the new company, so it falls back to the ISIN and uses that as the name — on the new row and in the stock list.

Everything else about the row is correct: the new holding is priced from the ISIN, not the name, so your values, returns and tax figures are all right. It's only the label that's ugly.

To fix it now: just type the company's proper name over the ISIN in the Scrip cell of the new row. That cell is only a label for rows created this way — the ISIN sits in its own column and does the real work — so renaming it is safe and it will stick.

We're adding a New name column so hand-entered mergers and demergers can name the new company properly.

2. Yes — it checks your purchase date against the ex-date

Only holdings bought before the ex-date receive the new shares. A lot you bought on or after that date is skipped, exactly as it should be. The same rule governs splits and bonuses: a corporate action only adjusts holdings that existed before it happened.

One thing to watch: a row with a blank Buy date is treated as held from before, so it will receive the new shares. If any of your rows have no date, fill it in before the update.

3. Mutual funds: no corporate-action sheet, and here's what does work

Corporate actions — splits, bonuses, mergers, demergers — apply to shares only. There is no Corporate_Actions sheet for mutual funds, and fund scheme mergers are not handled automatically.

• Scheme renamed by the AMC: fund NAVs are matched by ISIN, not by name. So if you fill the fund's ISIN cell, a rename changes nothing — it keeps matching. If that cell is empty, the old name stops matching and you'll need to pick the fund from the dropdown again.
• Scheme merged into another scheme, or its ISIN changed: this one is manual today. Record a redemption on MF_SIP (a row with a minus Amount) for the old scheme, and add the units you received in the new scheme as a purchase row.

4. Fund sales from the CAS statement

This is working as designed, not ignoring anything. MF_SIP is one single ledger: purchases are positive Amounts, and sales, redemptions and switch-outs are negative Amount rows in the same sheet. Nothing is dropped — a sale is the negative row.

That's why funds don't have a separate sales sheet the way shares do (Equity_Sells). Your fund capital gains are worked out oldest-units-first over that one ledger, which is exactly what the tax rules need.

About the rows that weren't readable — that's the deliberate safety rule: if a fund's transactions don't add up against the closing balance printed on your own statement, or a line fails the Amount = Units × NAV check, that whole fund is left out rather than partly imported with numbers that might be wrong. The run prints a ✗ line with the reason for each fund it left out.

1. Hindustan Unilever demerger. You won't need to enter it by hand. It's now included, along with a change that matters more: corporate actions no longer wait for a new version. From the next release, every run of Update Portfolio quietly picks up newly published mergers and demergers, so an event added today reaches you on your next update — nothing to type, nothing to download. HUL is in there: record date 05‑12‑2025, one Kwality Wall's (India) share per HUL share, cost split 98.09% / 1.91%.

(If you do enter one by hand, that's why it seemed rejected: a demerger needs two rows — one for the part the old company keeps, with its own ISIN in New ISIN, and one for the new company — and their Cost % must total 100.)

2. Moving your data to a new version. There's nothing to move — your workbook is your data. Just copy the new Update Portfolio file over the old one and run it. Your Family_Portfolio_Tracker.xlsx stays exactly where it is; the updater backs it up and rebuilds it with every row and setting intact.

3. Tata Motors. Already included since v1.7.4, so your 1.7.5 has it. Two things to check:

• Your Tata Motors row's ISIN should read INE155A01022. After the demerger the original company was renamed Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, and the name "Tata Motors Limited" now belongs to the new commercial‑vehicles company — so if your row shows a different ISIN, that's why nothing applies.
• Your buy date must be before 14‑10‑2025.

Also worth knowing: a demerger never changes your share count. You keep all your Tata Motors shares — what appears is a new row for the demerged company, with your original buy date and a share of your cost.

4. Do you need to download the project? No. Just replace the Update Portfolio file with the latest one and run it — that's the whole upgrade.

I suggest that the equity sheet should cover all transaction including shares sold and equity sale sheet only sale details to be entered and python should calculate profit on fifo basis. There will be less work of data entry. and finally holding report should provide the balance shares with cost and market value and unrealised gain and there should be column of statement date market value and statement date so that the holdings can be compared to the holding statement of broker. is this project possible for foreign shares. i think there is an error in case of merger example idfc ltd to idfc first bank. in i manually enterd the detials in corporate action it says it applied but new name and quantity does not change
