BackupCheckup User Guide

BackupCheckup monitors Home Assistant's native backups and answers four practical questions:

  1. Is there a current and complete backup?
  2. Is it stored in enough locations?
  3. Can the backup be decrypted and read completely?
  4. How well prepared is recovery after a total system failure?

The integration runs locally, never changes a backup, and never restores data to the production Home Assistant instance. The optional Runtime Runner can additionally start an already verified backup in a temporary, network-isolated Home Assistant instance.

Recommended starting points

Requirements

  • Home Assistant 2026.3.0 or newer
  • Administrator access for setup and manual verification actions
  • HACS for the recommended installation method
  • Home Assistant OS only if the optional Runtime Runner is required

Languages

The integration and sidebar panel include English, German, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Italian, French, Danish, and Spanish. This Wiki is the canonical English documentation.
