Proposal: a family of Dartec themes (corrected Dartec, Glass, Glass Lite, Soft, Material, Graphite) #1

Proposal for the owner's approval. Nothing in this repository has changed.

The drafts for a family of Dartec themes are in kaboomAE/dartec-ha-manager under docs/dashboards/dartec-variants/. They were tested on the bench Pi 5 (HA 2026.9.3) on 2026-09-25:

• in light and dark;
• in English and Arabic;
• at phone, tablet, wall-panel and NSPanel sizes.

All of them are in one file, dartec-variants.yaml, ready to drop into themes/.

What all six share:

• Theme variables only: no card-mod, no JavaScript, no images, no downloads. The glass look uses HA's own ha-card-background and ha-card-backdrop-filter.
• Light and dark fully written in each theme.
• WCAG AA in both modes, 12 of 12. For glass, the worst case over every colour of the gradient (contrast).
• No copper. The brand reserves it for AI.

Fixes to the current theme (the corrected Dartec entry):

1. The accent is copper (#A8551F), which the brand guidelines reserve for AI-generated content. The corrected entry uses teal.
2. The font never loads. It is set through primary-font-family and paper-font-*, which HA stopped reading in 2025.5. The corrected entry uses ha-font-family-body and -heading naming Dubai and Lateef. Actually loading them is Dashboards R15: Serve Dartec's brand fonts from the agent: Lateef for Arabic, Dubai for Latin, Plex Mono dartec-ha-manager#59.
3. AC mode buttons stay HA blue, so the brand never appears on the most-used control. Teal and gold are now set through the documented state-climate-*-color and state-light-on-color.
4. No LICENSE file, and hacs.json has no homeassistant minimum. Both are still to add.

Blur on tablets. On a cheap-tablet proxy (software GPU, CPU throttled 4×), Glass's blur multiplied the drawing work during a scroll by about 11×. Glass Lite cost the same as an opaque theme. Wall panels should use Graphite or Glass Lite until blur is measured on the real Tab A7 (details).

Recommendation: ship these two first.

1. Dartec (corrected) fixes the brand errors without changing how homes look.
2. Dartec Graphite is the panel theme.

Glass and Glass Lite can follow, once the fonts ship. Soft and Material are optional customer choices.

Licences. These are Dartec's own designs; no theme's files, values or images were copied.

• The inspirations are MIT or Apache-2.0, except Noctis, which has no licence and which we only looked at.
• The Material palette was generated with materialyoucolor (MIT), a port of Google's Apache-2.0 algorithm.
