On KeePassium running on macOS, you can only use Auto-Type when clicking the Auto-Type button in the app.

Include an option to bind a keyboard shortcut that toggles a pop-up window prompting the user to select the entry to Auto-Type

Using KeePassXC in tandem with KeePassium, but that's a little clunky.
