Invoice Numbering does not change with a custom one

When I change the invoice numbering it does not reflect the changes when creating a new invoice. Still the default one. Some countries have rules on numbering invoices. Sure one can always manually number it, but it is easier the auto way.

In Bulgaria there is a strictly defined legal standard for the numbering of invoices. The main legal framework is regulated in the Value Added Tax Act (Article 114) and the Regulations for the Application of the VAT Act (Article 78).

The main requirements for numbering include:

1. Number Format (10-Digit Requirement)

• The invoice number must be exactly 10 digits, using Arabic numerals only (e.g., 0000000001, 0000000125).
• Letters, hyphens, slashes, or other special characters are prohibited within the official number itself.

2. Sequence and Continuity

• The numbering must be ascending, strictly sequential, without duplicates, and without gaps.
• Numbering does not reset at the beginning of a new calendar year. It continues chronologically until the available digits are exhausted.

3. Unified Numbering for Invoices and Credit/Debit Notes

• Invoices and related notices (credit and debit notes) share a single unified numbering sequence. You do not maintain a separate series solely for credit notes—if an invoice is No. 0000000010, the next issued credit note will be No. 0000000011.

4. Use of Ranges (Series)
   If a company operates multiple locations, lines of business, or uses different billing software, the law permits assigning specific number ranges (series) for each location.

• Example:
  • Head Office / Software A: 0000000001 to 1000000000
  • Store / Software B: 1000000001 to 2000000000
• Within each specific range, the strict sequential order and absence of duplicates remain mandatory.

5. VAT Registration

• Upon initial VAT registration, NRA (National Revenue Agency) guidance requires starting the numbering from 0000000001 (or from the beginning of a dedicated new range) to clearly distinguish documents issued with VAT from those issued prior to registration.
