Can't hear words

I reported in my previous bug report that I couldn't hear any words. The reply I received was:

"You have to double click on the items on the canvas to listen to them. Also, they have a right click menu. (I noticed a bug where the "Melody" menu doesn't work until the item is added to a cluster.)"

Comments:

-- Whether I click, double-click, or triple-click, I can't hear the word.
-- When I right-click, I see a pop-up menu. I select "Play Target". I can't hear the word.
-- I added a cluster and dragged a word into it. Now I have a play button and I click on that. I can't hear the word.
-- I right-click on the word in the cluster and I see the pop-up menu again. I select "Play Target". I can't hear the word.
-- I noticed that the View menu has "Playback Delay" checked. I don't know what this does, but I tried unchecking it. I still can't hear the word.

Environment: Windows 7, 64-bit

I don't know if this helps, but I seem to remember a similar issue with Skype whenever I set up a new computer. I think I always have to change Skype's default speaker setting to the other speaker device.
