This page explains the content and layout of videos generated by CurveSimulator.
For exoplanetary systems, an inclination of 90 degrees typically indicates that the orbital plane is viewed edge-on from Earth.
Each video is divided into three main sections:
- Projects the 3D space (right-handed coordinate system x,y,z) onto 2D space (x=right, z=down)
- The y-axis points towards the viewpoint
- Planets orbit in a clockwise direction
- Projects the 3D space onto 2D space (x=right, y=up)
- The z-axis points towards the viewpoint
- Displays the resulting light curve
- Features a moving red dot that correlates the current position on the light curve with the planetary configurations shown in the above animations
