Understanding CurveSimulator Video Outputs

This page explains the content and layout of videos generated by CurveSimulator.

Exoplanet Inclination Convention

For exoplanetary systems, an inclination of 90 degrees typically indicates that the orbital plane is viewed edge-on from Earth.

Video Layout

Each video is divided into three main sections:

Top Left: Overhead View

• Projects the 3D space (right-handed coordinate system x,y,z) onto 2D space (x=right, z=down)
• The y-axis points towards the viewpoint
• Planets orbit in a clockwise direction

Top Right: Edge-On View

• Projects the 3D space onto 2D space (x=right, y=up)
• The z-axis points towards the viewpoint

Bottom: Light Curve

• Displays the resulting light curve
• Features a moving red dot that correlates the current position on the light curve with the planetary configurations shown in the above animations
