Background

Stackoverflow questions are linked with answers in threaded format. Each content is richtext content. And each content (Question/answers) are voted up or down. They also come with features to bookmark them and mark activity. Answers can be sorted in the bottom list.

Goal

Question management process needs to be added so that all the features are added along with it.

What Stackoverflow has

Each question and answers in stackoverflow goes through a moderation process. This is an example of how moderation works within stackoverflow. After approval each question gets posted. Similarly each comment goes through the same moderation after posting and if not flagged gets attached to the question.

Drupal replication of Stackoverflow Question Posting

We need a content chain mechanism to create question answer linked sequences. Drupal 7 used to have a Blog Module built into its core but in Drupal 8 at some time it was removed from core. So it is available as a contributor module now.

There is a distinction between comment and answers in stackoverflow I need to look into it a bit more.

Content Voting

We need to implement a voting mechanism for each content to enable role changes explained in Issue 4. Drupal Voting API enables us to have that feature added to the system.

Content Moderation

Drupal 8 provides a core feature Content Moderation, which can be used to moderate each content submission and then send notification to a specific User Roles for review.

Social Share

Drupal 8 has a module that is a bit different from 7 to do social sharing. We can attach a social sharing button or groups to content view to achieve this functionality. Social Share

Sorting Based on Vote

I have not found any direct way of creating a sorting of answers based on vote counts yet. I think we will have to do it programmatically from backend.

votingapi_vote table has user_id && entity_type+entity_id columns.

We will be able to easily query our desired results in a dataset from db with these items.

Follow Feature

Drupal 8 provides Message Subscribe module to let users subscribe to a content so that any changes or updates on its thread can be notified to them.

Style

We need the theme styles developed before we can farther update on this.
