📢 2.0 Planned Changes

Starting a list of breaking changes for our next major version. As always, feedback is welcome. At the point where we have enough to justify a new major, we'll plan for a release.

I've also created a 2.0.0 Milestone, to track more formally.

The earliest we could possibly consider a release for this (based on our deprecation policy) is 2026-09-07

Supported Node.js versions

• 2026-04-30: v20 EoL (schedule)
• 2026-06-01: v25 EoL
• ^22.22.2 || ^24.15.0 || >= 26.0.0 for validate-npm-package-name and npm-package-arg compat
• 🚀 Feature: Update Node compat #1029

Changed APIs

• remove return type option from validate and remove the legacy return type (#755)

• validate-npm-package-name -> ^8.0.0 (check engines) (#870)
