Energy systems engineer and operator. I build software that makes physical systems and operational decisions legible, and publish the research behind it at mrbese.com.
Now
- WattShed, a national program-design system for residential-efficiency rebates. Its public, no-login designer covers all 50 states and DC, combining physics-based savings estimates with location-appropriate methodology offerings. Milam County is the staged case study for the resident journey. Settlement is simulated and no money moves through WattShed. Engineering notes explain the system without exposing private code.
- Re_Tera: Insurance Copilot, a native iPhone and iPad policy-investigation and home-inventory app for homeowners and renters. It is live on the Apple App Store, currently version 2.0.0. Engineering notes cover the product boundary without exposing private code.
Public work
- BESE tokenizer, the first custom-tokenizer submission to OpenAI's Parameter Golf Challenge (1.1276 bits per byte), plus a BESE + Mamba-3 hybrid submission (#1665). Both pull requests remain open. Built from first principles, no formal ML background.
- CellSense, a native iOS home-battery payback calculator on TestFlight.
- HazShip, lithium-battery shipping compliance (UN 38.3, IATA DGR).
