Feature request
Which Nextcloud Version are you currently using: (see administration page)
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Currently, as an instance grows and has more users, activity notifications can be flooded with information that is not relevant for a user.
Describe the solution you'd like
With a filtering feature, users would be able to configure what activities they really need to be notified about. For example, specific files that the user has "interacted" with, Files that a Team a user is part of have affected, etc.
activities that have no object but impacts you (your account, ex: being added to a group by an admin)
What was not done
extend that view to include items that the user owns or is assigned to. Reason being that we need more thought on how to implement it technically. Tricky because supporting extension from other apps is either ugly or slow.
I would think per team is a big one we should relatively soon have: the Teams app would want to be able to show all activities happening on team resources.
In the teams app left sidebar, I'd also like to be able to select a team from my teams and see just their activity.
We should keep this as simple as possible, no big list of filter options. There needs to be a toggle at the top for filtering, with "Focused" and "All activity".
We need to have this new default "Focused" activity stream which shows:
Items you own/created
Items you edited
Things you are assigned to / attending (Deck / Calendar)
Ktems you commented on
Favorites
Stuff from your teams
…
We could have a "Teams" selector which allows you to filter by team activity, but keep in mind we have the dedicated Teams app, so not sure this is needed.
That, I am not sure it would be straightforward to pull. Maybe based on the files_version or the activities, but both would be incomplete.
Things you are assigned to / attending (Deck / Calendar)
Technically doable, but I don't think the API are in place yet, so might be big
Items you commented on
Same as above.
Stuff from your teams
Would mean activities of my team members, right?
I was also thinking activities on resources owned by my teams, but that would only be possible once resources can be owned by a team.
Could also be activities on resources shared to my teams.
First of all, what Jan said - that approach he proposes, just one simple 'focused' view and maybe a Team selector, super nice. Much better than 10 more filters which is what I had in mind ;-)
For teams activity- we COULD just limit it to what happens to resources owned by the team, but if shared to the team is not hard, then that makes sense of course. Either would probably suffice - in time, most resources would be team-owned I think.
And like Jan said, it isn't per-se needed to show Teams as option in Activity, it really belongs in the Teams app. That would need API work, I understand. I would prioritize that, it will make the Teams app much more useful. If that is still doable for 35 it would rock.
The focussed stream that has your own stuff we can perhaps do incrementally, first do the easy stuff... Expand after that.
@jancborchardt Which icon should be used for this "Focused" view?
Regarding "Favorites", I think it’s best to leave it out because there is already a Favorites view in activity, and there are several reasons for favoriting files, mainly having easy access and it does not always mean I want to monitor them.
Should this focused view be available as a dashboard widget as well? Or even replace the current activity widget (maybe not cool for existing users of it though…).

@nextcloud/designers can we have a more exhaustive list of filters?
artonge commentedon Jun 19, 2026
First step would be to support that on the API. Then we can ask a frontender to implement the UI to use those new capabilities.

@come-nc as an icon, "Home" makes sense as we do elsewhere

Would be nice, yeah. And indeed it would be best if there are 2 widgets: "Focused activity" and "All activity"
