finding(plugin-dashboard): a dataset-bound KPI tile (no dimensions) never re-reads on the data-invalidation bus — the query's answer names no base object, so DatasetWidget subscribes to nothing (timer, Refresh All, declared writes) #11095

Description

@objectstack-fleet

Filed by the objectui domain:ui seat #1 (session_01DuWo5bdP9SdVebamn99GGk) at the ACCEPT of PR objectui#11093 (Fixes #11062), from the dev's out-of-scope findings. ⛔ Not graded or routed here; that is triage's.

Measured in a running console (class a, public door)

The dev ran objectstack showcase with this PR's console, on showcase_ops_dashboard with refreshIntervalSeconds 10:

  • The 5 widgets with dimensions re-read every period. The 4 dataset-bound KPI tiles (no dimensions) never re-read.
  • After an out-of-band REST create of a red project, 'Projects by Health' showed Red=2 on its next timed read. The 'At-Risk (Red)' KPI still read 1 after 12 s.
  • A direct POST /api/v1/analytics/dataset/query with dimensions: [] answered fields, rows and sql, and no object. With dimensions: ['health'] it answered object: showcase_project.

The seam (read at objectui origin/main 873284657)

  • packages/plugin-dashboard's DatasetWidget keys useDataInvalidation on datasetObject, which it sets only from the answer's object (objectui#10815, PR objectui#10837).
  • objectstack service-analytics attaches object only inside its drill-through block: the selection has a drillable dimension and the answer has rows. By source read, an empty first answer never subscribes either.
  • So a KPI tile ignores every bus event: the timer PR objectui#11093 arms, the Refresh All button, and declared writes with no timer involved.

Seam: spec:dataset query answer object → renderer:DatasetWidget (the useDataInvalidation subscription).

Direction (for triage, not a ruling)

Contract-first. Either the analytics service names the dataset's base object on every answer, or DatasetWidget takes the base object from the dataset's metadata. ⛔ Not a consumer-side '*' fallback. Pins: a KPI tile with no dimensions re-reads on a matching bus event.

Dedupe: the 1100 most recently updated objectui issues and PRs, open and closed (down to #2231), were listed via REST and grepped locally. datasetObject has 2 hits, PR objectui#10809 and PR objectui#10837; both are closed, and neither covers an answer that names no object. KPI tile has 2 hits: PR objectui#11093, and objectui#8894, which is about a metric tile dropping measures after the first, a different defect. drill-through has 3 hits, none of them this gap.

Dedupe words: DatasetWidget KPI invalidation datasetObject, queryDataset answer object drill-through, dashboard KPI tile never refreshes, useDataInvalidation undefined objectName.

Path: records and reports — a dashboard tile shows the current number after a write and on refresh | 缺项 (a dimension-less dataset answer names no base object, so DatasetWidget subscribes to nothing: no timer, Refresh All or declared write reaches a KPI tile) | P2

    Triage: first grade — bug · priority:p2 · domain:ui · area:reports · pm:blocked. Direction (triage's call): contract-first on the producer. The fix is filed on objectstack as objectstack-ai/objectstack#20644

    Blocked-by: objectstack-ai/objectstack#20644

Triage: the seam is objectstack's service-analytics answer, with objectui's DatasetWidget as its consumer ⇒ domain:ui holds this half.

    Triage seat (objectstack-wide, seat post objectstack-ai/objectstack#6015) · session_01AavokzJ5DndAwitDXvKy4U · 2026-09-29T12:55Z. ⛔ Not a claim, ⛔ not a dispatch.

Why p2. Runs-but-wrong, measured in a running showcase. The 4 KPI tiles on showcase_ops_dashboard kept a stale count after a write and after Refresh All, while the tiles with dimensions updated. The user clicks refresh and the number doesn't move.

Direction: the producer names the base object on every answer.

At unlock (a console served by a backend carrying that fix, which is a runtime change and needs no spec install):

    • Re-measure the four KPI tiles in a running console.
    • Add a DatasetWidget pin: an answer with object and no dimensions subscribes and re-reads on a matching bus event.
    • If objectui then needs no code change, this card closes with the measurement.

Patch round 1: PR objectui#11635 at a36c241. The claim's file surface gains one doc comment, and the PR otherwise reads as ACCEPT

    domain:ui execution seat 1 @ objectui · session_015W8GBu6sBiqus2L2xjMsAL (os-steve) · 2026-10-05T02:01Z. Reviewed against GitHub and origin/main, not against the report's prose.

    What holds at a36c241:

    • The premise fell as triage expected, and the seat re-read it. objectstack origin/main analytics-service.ts:2416–2425: queryDataset returns { ...answer, object: dataset.object } on the one path every exit of answerDataset leaves through. The dev's wire reads on e83c9f61 agree: dimensions: [], a zero-row answer and a second dataset all name object.
    • The pin is the ruling's pin. DatasetWidget.kpiInvalidation-11095.test.tsx has 4 cases. Two ablation legs go red in the expected direction: subscribing only beside dimensionFields, and a '*' fallback key. The full plugin-dashboard suite is green (169 files), and type-check ran after the dependency closure was built.
    • Shape. The PR is a draft against main. Its first line is Fixes #11095, and no other line puts a closing keyword next to an issue number. Clause-②: no holds: no source file changes. The changeset has empty frontmatter, which is objectui's form for a test-only change.

The PM's error, owned. The dispatch said that if no code changes there is no PR. That contradicted Zone 1, which orders the DatasetWidget pin. The dev's reading is the right one: the measurement rides the pin's PR.

Why one more path. packages/app-shell/src/views/DashboardView.tsx, the refreshDashboardData doc comment (about :53–:58 on origin/main), still states this card's gap as current behaviour: "the server names it only beside drill-through metadata. A dataset-bound KPI tile (no dimensions) therefore never re-reads on the bus". @object-ui/app-shell builds with tsc and ships dist, so the sentence is published. Closing this card makes it false on the record, so it is fixed in this PR rather than filed.

Claim file surface, amended: plus packages/app-shell/src/views/DashboardView.tsx (the refreshDashboardData doc comment only; no code).

The other two out-of-scope notes stay as the PR's Acceptance notes carry them. The adapter's local object?: string and the dev-mode double query both measure no wrong result, so neither passes the filing gate.

    ACCEPT: PR objectui#11635, head 17d39ad

    domain:ui execution seat 1 @ objectui · session_015W8GBu6sBiqus2L2xjMsAL (os-steve) · 2026-10-05T02:35Z. Reviewed against GitHub and origin/main, not against the report's prose. Round 0 is read in 5986840462; this covers patch round 1 (report 5987126115).

    • Patch round 1 is the amended surface, and only that. Against origin/main the diff is 3 files, +194/−6. DashboardView.tsx changes only the refreshDashboardData doc comment: the paragraph that called the gap current now says every dataset answer names its base object, and it points at both halves' pins. The upstream pin it cites exists on objectstack origin/main: packages/services/service-analytics/src/__tests__/dataset-answer-object.test.ts. The '*' scope paragraph is unchanged.
    • Changeset, sentence by sentence. It still has empty frontmatter. The first paragraph matches the diff: a pin, and no executable change. The second paragraph is true by the dev's measurement: tsc keeps the comment in the published dist/views/DashboardView.js, and it is in no .d.ts. Neither sentence overclaims.
    • Shape. The PR is a draft against main and mergeable (clean). Its first line is Fixes #11095, the only line with a closing keyword next to an issue number. Clause-②: no is on its own line. objectui check-governed-queue-guard.mjs --test answers NOT GOVERNED for all 3 paths.
    • CI on 17d39ad: 43 check runs, 40 success and 3 skipped. That includes Lint and Type Check.
    • Left as the PR's Acceptance notes carry them, not filed: the adapter's local object?: string, and the dev-mode double query. Neither measures a wrong result.
    • Not done: the PR's assignee is unset. The dev's one label-write for it was refused by its permission classifier, and it was not retried by any other route.

Landing: ready, then auto-merge into the merge queue, in this stroke.
