objectui's first 18.x release becomes possible, as 18.0.0-next.N on npm dist-tag next, with latest staying on 17.7.0. Four parts, one PR:

  2. Changesets pre mode on tag next. Run pnpm changeset pre enter next, which writes .changeset/pre.json as { "mode": "pre", "tag": "next" }.

Measured already (on #12030's branch at 2e80824ea, before the split reverted parts 1 and 2 there)

  • With the sync major and pre.json in place, changeset version on a scratch copy took the fixed group to 18.0.0-next.0. changeset publish-plan planned 39 packages at 18.0.0-next.0, every one on dist-tag next. The release workflow needed no change.
  • node scripts/check-changeset-no-major.mjs exited 1, which turns Changeset Bump Policy red. The repo-state case in scripts/__tests__/check-changeset-no-major.test.ts fails inside the required Test.
  • pnpm check:spec-floors exited 1 with the collapse message above.
  • The bump gate was added by fix(release): the pending release is 17.2.0, not 18.0.0 #3237 (c3194207d, 2026-08-03), after @object-ui/core 17.1.0 (2026-07-31), so it has never seen a sync major.

Acceptance

  • Positive controls:
    • This PR's changeset passes the bump gate.
