bug(ui): action columns have excess spacing and inconsistent sticky backgrounds #453

Open

Description

@singchia

Problem

Device and cluster action columns reserve fixed widths even when fewer buttons are visible. Sticky cells use opaque zinc backgrounds while surrounding rows use translucent fills, causing visible blocks and inconsistent hover states.

Scope

  • Device list: fixed 320px action column, alignment and sticky surfaces.
  • Cluster list: fixed 320px action column despite variable actions and permissions.
  • Kubernetes resource tables: Nodes, Workloads, Pods and Events sticky surfaces and alignment.
  • Legacy Kubernetes and packet capture lists contain the same patterns.

Expected behavior

Action columns fit their content, headers and buttons align left, and sticky cells match row/header surfaces in both themes including hover. Horizontal scrolling must not reveal text underneath sticky cells.

Prevention

Document the action-column contract in the frontend design language and AGENTS.md, and share the opaque table styles.

Keep this issue open for public verification after resolution.

    Implemented in PR #454 and deployed to the test environment. Action columns now fit their content, use left-aligned headers/actions, and share opaque normal/header/hover surfaces. The frontend design language and AGENTS.md now document the contract.

    Validation: 79 focused tests and make build-web passed. The deployed device list passed dark/light, hover and spacing checks. Kubernetes Nodes/Workloads/Pods/Events and a low-action cluster list passed browser fixture checks and screenshot inspection in both themes; this was UI testing, not real Kubernetes integration. CI is still running before merge.

    This issue will remain open for public verification.
